If they *want* a way to get out of this ant business quickly, that sure is an expedient way to do it.

I agree with what looks like the majority consensus though, the polymorph spell would cause the hole to be inert, so it’d be safe until the spell ends.

If only this were the worst thing that could be said about any current council member.

Council President Sara Nelson spends so much time hiding under her desk, it makes me wonder if she really wants the job.

Well, this looks like a game I should getβ€”delighted to see it’s available for macOS as well as Windows (and Linux) on Steam!

The main achievement of the tech industry has been increasing the flow of money from people who make or do things to people who already have more money than they could spend in a hundred lifetimes

This is a really good, thoughtful, and informed essay about the origins and implications of the currently ongoing energy transition. There are no guarantees here, and no doubt even in the best case many people will still suffer, but I still found it gave me a hopeful feeling overall.

Circling back to the list of 5 key ingredients for progress: we have decent plans, talented staff, strong advocacy, moderate local funding, but we're really hurting for strong mayoral leadership.

Transformational change is possible with bold leadership. Vote @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social by Nov 4.

Sometimes Seattle feels frustratingly parochial and reactionary, and sometimes I’m reminded how much of that really is how our political leadership too often are tools of a minority of big business/industry and selfish well-off homeowners. (Granted, the public does keep electing these tools…)

This is a good and encouraging thread. It is worth noting, as several replies do, that the real test would be whether SPD would handle similar marches led by non-white people the same way in the future. But at minimum, it’s a hopeful sign they won’t side with the fascists if push comes to shove.l

Okay but how long has it been since a traffic camera was installed here to catch and ticket drivers who block the intersection, and when is that supposed to actually start helping to keep the intersection open? Because the eastbound 8 is still routinely blocked by drivers going to the I-5 on-ramp.

Great thread on why protests matter. Now let it motivate you to GET BUSY!!

A few suggestions will follow.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.

A reminder that if violent crime in Seattle was not currently dropping, militarizing our streets would still be inappropriate and a bad idea.

In 2021 when The Urbanist interviewed Harrell, he got mad at us for the interview time (his choice) and for not endorsing him during an election when The Urbanist did not exist yet.

What beggars belief here is that CM Rivera keeps insisting she supports alternative response even while she gives a long stream of remarks that illustrate that she clearly doesn't.

I swear that the entire purpose of Harrell’s budget is to set up Wilson for β€œfailure” so he can attempt to swoop back into office in four years and spend more time doing nothing worthwhile.

The majority of the council members β€”and Mayor Harrellβ€”are so small-minded and shortsighted.

Rivera continues to demonstrate that she is incompetent and unfit for office, and it’s a shame she shows no self-awareness or inclination to improve her knowledge, understanding, and work as a council member.

This council's attitudes towards levies approved by voters is very concerning. As a voter, I in fact care that governments spend money I voted on where they told me they planned to spend it.
