I had a similar reaction when I saw Saturn for the first time, not as a photo in a textbook, but The Actual Saturn. Up there. Looking back at me.

Dick, these are beautiful black damselflies that we see in the summertime here in NC. I like to take slow-motion videos of them flying and landing softly on shrubs in the forest.

Love the frogs jumping left and right image! I originally thought of abundance--rice filling every bowl (the dream) but then I remember where we are right now in our country and our world (the reality).

A sumi-e style artwork with mostly black and grey shades. A bare, twisty branch is lit by a red sun that's represented by a half ensō. A bird is sitting on the branch, looking up, giving the nice visual of it seemingly staring at the bright red sun. The bird itself has not many details to it, surely no identifiable species, but it is a small bird, maybe a swallow. There is a haiku by Kobayashi Issa in Japanese kanji, romaji & english. .在合の鳥も初声上にけり ariai no tori mo hatsu koe age ni keri from this bird the year's first song rises

I'm so happy with how this came out. Has that traditional japanese/chinese brush work vibe and nothing makes me happier.

Someday I hope I'll learn Japanese & kanji to be able to do the calligraphy and write my own verses in Japanese.
