At least 1298 Curlew chicks were released after headstaring (hatching and rearing in captivity) between 2014 and 2023.

Three Eurasian curlew eggs in a nest scrape. The nest scrape is lined with light brown dry grass. The nest is surrounded by green flowering sedges. The yellow anthers of the black sedge flowers are visible. The curlew eggs are greeny-brown with darker brown blotchy spots. They are about 6.5cm in length and 4.5cm in breadth.
Appropriately for #WorldCurlewDay the Upper Thames Wader Group fencing team protected its first nest* of the season today @mikepnature.bsky.social. HT to Noah Walker who located the nest yesterday.
