MEMORANDUM OPINION
February 16, 2026
“All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary. In no case would it have been possible, once the deed was done, to prove that any falsification had taken place.”
George Orwell, 1984'
As if the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell's 1984 now existed, with its motto
"Ignorance is Strength," this Court is now asked to determine whether the federal government
has the power it claims—to dissemble and disassemble historical truths when it has some domain
over historical facts. It does not.
The President's House is a component of Independence National Historical Park that
commemorates the site of the first official presidential residence and the people who lived there,
including people enslaved by President George Washington. On January 22, 2026, the National
Park Service ("NPS") removed panels, displays, and video exhibits that referenced slavery and
information about the individuals enslaved at the President's House.
Plaintiff City of Philadelphia ("the City" filed this lawsuit under the Administrative
Procedures Act ("APA") against the Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum…

For the reasons stated above, the Motion for Preliminary Injunction will be granted. The preliminary injunction will remain in place pending further litigation in this matter. There can b

If you want to understand why rich guys are turning back to eugenics and recreating the rhetoric and theology of slavery, it’s because they know on some level this level of wealth inequality is unjustifiable bsky.app/profile/marl...

The central political divide today in the U.S. is not between two sides offering slightly varying iterations of the same underlying political bargain but between a tradition affirming the historic liberal-constitutional order and one that enthusiastically strips rights from ideological opponents.

The Trump Administration Arrested Don Lemon Like He Was a Fugitive Slave
Lemon’s arrest is not only a clear violation of the First Amendment but also a blatant throwback to the Constitution’s long-discarded Fugitive Slave Clause.
Last night, Trump’s DOJ arrested Don Lemon in a clear violation of the First Amendment. It was also a blatant throwback to the Constitution’s long-discarded Fugitive Slave Clause. Here, @elienyc.bsky.social explains why the arrest is even worse than you think. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

This is why I have real fucking problem with blithe criticisms of "polarization" or "congressional dysfunction." We have a Republican member blaming his colleague for being attacked.
The problem isn't polarization or dysfunction. It's the Republican Party.

It really is upsetting to see the Department of Labor—once headed by Frances Perkins, the woman behind the New Deal, who unapologetically bent immigration rules to save thousands of Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany—posting fascist Reichslop like this

Exactly.
It's not to show the ICE officer was in danger—the video he took himself shows he obviously isn't—but to show their supporters that the victim deserved to be murdered.
And to show their opponents they can and will murder them in cold blood and with impunity.

1984 is over-cited, but nothing fits the government and its supporters blatantly lying about ICE’s murder of Renee Good when video from multiple angles show she posed no threat than “the Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”

Democrats need to understand that they can just say “It’s insane to threaten Greenland” and “I don’t think ICE should murder Americans in the street” and you don’t need to pretend to link it to the affordability crisis.
Say bad things are bad.

The destruction doesn't make for a photo-op like tearing down the East Wing of the White House or bulldozing the Rose Garden, but it's every bit as bad. Generations of American children learned to spell and count, learned the Preamble to the Constitution, from watching shows produced by the CPB.

i am running into a new year
By Lucille Clifton
i am running into a new year
and the old years blow back
like a wind
that i catch in my hair
like strong fingers like
all my old promises and
it will be hard to let go
of what i said to myself
about myself
when i was sixteen and
twenty-six and thirty-six
even thirty-six but
i am running into a new year
and i beg what i love and
i leave to forgive me
Always worth a post

It's worth reading through the whole thing, not just these horrific excerpts. Most important: not a single person -- with the exception of a guy who says he'll turn on CNN if he's out of other options -- gets their news from actual journalists. It's all RW podcasts, YouTubers and TikTok.
