It seems super weird that there isn't a political party in the state making this a major issue.

Talked with some neighbors and learned that it was only during the day they blocked it off. There was nobody there later on in the evening leading up to the fireworks.
Went over to Lakewood East park today confirms this as there was an absurd amount of garbage strewn about.
Apparently they didn't close every park. Over at one that got entirely trashed. Why would they block up one park all day and not the ones next to it?

23.06.2025 18:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And the rub is that the community center is only closed because they don't want people parking their cars to camp out for the fireworks. Doesn't matter if you walk or bike up, closed because of cars.

I spiring to see this French city tackle pollution and excessive car usage in their city center.
Pollution significantly down as it stands with plans to take it further. Detroit should be planning similarly to prepare for population rises.

Awesome event at Detroit Parks this summer.
Sounds From The Parks by Marcus Elliot. Today at Chandler Park.
Next one July 17th at Clark Park.
Hope it gets sold and redeveloped soon! I'm hoping for something worth walking to.

Diagram showing how higher vehicles dramatically affect site lines, especially for seeing kids. Plus the weight makes it harder to stop in time.
Thereβs a TON of evidence that bigger, higher vehicles are far more likely to kill somone they hit, crushing vital organs & pushing victims under.
But never forget, their weight, height & sightlines also make it far more likely that theyβll hit someone in the first place.

One thing I would want to add to this is a general idea to allow for the city to be more autonomous. So much of what holds us back is the State restricting what we can and cannot do. Maybe it isn't a perfect idea, but I think a city-led "laboratory of democracy" is what Michigan needs.
05.06.2025 21:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Couldn't agree more with Brian Connolly's ideas on ways to improve life in the City of Detroit. As a Detroiter, we want investment in the neighborhoods & more people, but without the displacement/pressure to displace.
