If any other president was 57 minutes late to an event addressing service members, there would be wall-to-wall coverage on all 3 major cable news networks addressing whether or not the president cares about the military.

So it wasn't just that people were being credulous, it's that there was proof Trump was lying at the time but those people didn't care because they wanted to show they were fair and objective (to Trump, not the facts their readers needed to know)
