I love the weak "I didn't watch it." If I was her, I'd follow up with "The president calls a mysterious meeting with every military leader at Quantico and you, the Speaker of the House, were not paying attention when he broadcast it?"

I remember getting SO mad at someone posting this on facebook raising some fringe point. My response was something to the effect of "Do you know the amount of tech and industrial infrastructure required to procuce even ONE laptop? Enough that we'd have more than one carving of evidence!"

This might be a bit niche, but I was surprised at the weird hedging (if only slight) around the Shakers, especially given they accepted black brethren and sisters and Elder FW Evans was the brother of George Henry Evans, the National Reformer.

Me 20 years ago: "I wish the Bush Administration and I agreed om something."

His real name was John Bull, but they had to change it to an American founding father just to keep him from going critical mass.

And 20-30 years ago it would have been the plot of a silly action/thriller movie neatly tied up by a plucky detective/FBI agent/reporter and their plucky co-star.

Just wrapped up a new round of edits on part 3 of my four-part novel draft. Less than 100 pages left to go on a 447 page draft I have been reviewing since mid-July (and it was 40 pages longer back then).

Or the justices could just stop being coy and give Trump some sort of official marker to indicate his view is always legal and correct. A pointy gold hat, perhaps.

Did they intentionally dim the lighting to cloak him in darkness, or does thay always just happen when he's in the room?

I have been looking for any other connections between the antirent movement and the Shakers both due to the comunal agrarian idealism connection and the fact that two major Shaker villages (Watervliet and Mount Lebanon) were in the heart of the antirent regions of upstate New York.

Elder Fredrick William Evans wrote several works tying Shaker belief to the desires of the reform eras of their day. He was seen as a more liberal-minded Shaker compared to others in the sect.

Worth mentioning that there is at least one small connection between this time period and the anti-rent war. The National Reform Society leader George Henry Evans threw his support in with the antirenters. Evans' brother Fredrick William Evans was a Shaker and later became a prominent elder.

The number of Shakers in the U.S. rises to 3 A new person has joined the last active Shaker community in the U.S, bringing the Christian, communal, and celibate group to a total of three. They once numbered in the thousands.

An unmentioned part of the novel in progress depicts the Shaker 'Era of Manisfestations' from 1842 to 1860 so this caught my eye. www.npr.org/2025/08/19/n...
