I told the post office clerk I needed some stamps with my usual caveat: no flags, no white guys. She rummaged through the drawer and said "Is SpongeBob a white guy?" and everyone on line was like "No."

A Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin’s dad is going to read him a bedtime story.

First panel:
Calvin’s dad, scanning a bookshelf: β€œWhat story would you like tonight? We can read anything exceptβ€”β€œ
Calvin, from bed, excited: β€œThe Voynich Manuscript!”

Second panel:
Calvin’s dad, deeply exasperated: β€œNO! No Voynich Manuscript tonight! We’ve tried to decipher that book a million times!”
Calvin, yelling: β€œI want the Voynich Manuscript!”

Third panel:
Calvin’s dad, trying to reason with him: β€œLook, you *know* how the story goes! You’ve memorized the whole thing! It’s completely unreadable!”
Calvin: β€œI want mysterious glyphs and sigils!”

Fourth panel:
Calvin, in bed and staring wide-eyed into the dark: β€œWow, the story was different *that* time!”
Hobbes, also in bed and staring: (a long string of incomprehensible characters).

this is so freaking funny to me because as a political candidate Mr Zohran is actively job hunting. he is basically asking every single new yorker to please give him a job

it also helps my driving stress/anxiety to be prepared for emergencies. roadside assistance is big. having an emergency kit in the car. paper map just in case. just plain knowing what to do if something goes wrong or doesn't seem quite right. my anxious ass says prepared not scared.

I believe in you. driving is hard but there's nothing like being able to just casually go somewhere. look for the low-stress places to drive and practice there first. [quiet neighborhoods, small towns etc]

also, people who say this have no appreciation for how stressful and expensive it is to move house

Wow, over lunch at this event, I was chatting with a woman and she mentioned how she failed Mississippi's "literacy" test 3 times, keeping her from the vote

Just now I learned there are a couple people here who integrated their schools

I moved from Alabama to New York and funny enough edibles aren't individually wrapped here. They come in standard sizes/doses and sometimes child proof packages [both good ideas] but individual wrapping is just silly.

i grew up somewhere with no transit so maybe this isnt big news to yall big city people but i see people almost falling over on the bus all the time because they're facing forward so idk i thought maybe i should say somethin

24.10.2025 15:54 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

i figured out that if you have to stand on the bus, it's way easier if you face the side of the bus instead of trying to face front. then it feels like you're on a skateboard. my big strong legs do the work of keeping me stable a lot better. #transit

Meme. Ad or label for Carling Breweries, showing three men at a table, having a drink together. They appear to be dressed in 19th century clothing.

The man on the left is leaning back into his chair with his feet out, and his right hand is on a cane. His left hand holds a long pipe, and he is looking at you. His face is flushed, like he has been exercising or lying, or been caught thinking about his sex dungeon. The man in middle, wearing a green jacket, is older. His white hair is receding, and he is also smoking. His gaze is on the last man.

This last fellow, wearing a red jacket & a blue bow tie, is standing and pointing at a piece of paper on the table. His black top hat is on the ground beside him, as if he stood up in a hurry. I would guess that he is upset about how they're splitting the bill. Why should *he* have to pay for Carter's onion rings? He barely had any!

The original label at the top reads: "Yorkshire Ale."

The meme text at the bottom reads:
"Now with more eels!"

In c.1634 Matthew Stevenson wrote a poem titled "Upon Yorkshire Ale"...a drink he didn't like. He found it too dark & thick, and he wrote (among other unpleasant things):

There cannot but be Eels
Where there is so much Mudde.

What do you think might be hiding in your drink?

my favorite is The War After the War by John Daly which argues basically that the civil war was followed immediately by another civil war. really impacted my thinking on southern politics. i have no idea whats been going on with SCOTUS btw
