watercolor image of Snorlax from Pokémon, and the painting's counterpart on the right from the original Japanese Pokémon Blue which later would be used for the international Red/Blue Versions of the Game Boy Game. The painting is done sticking to the pose of the original sprite, but mimicking artist Ken Sugimori's watercolor-style, and keeping the form of the Pokémon more closely to its official non-sprite art of the time.

Snorlax is called Kabigon in Japanese. Koji Nishino, who was one of the game designers for the original game, and inspiration for カビゴン. Apparently he was nicknamed 'Kirby'.

Just a reminder while this is a victory, it's not over yet until Discord completely gives up on the age verification nonsense. Don't resubcribe to Nitro immediately.

This sprite. This is the best. Years ago a website reviewing all R/B sprites described Poliwhirl as "It looks so emotional, like its watching its house burn down".

Hilarious.

Wonder if I should have painted Poliwag darker like the sprite, but I am trying to adhere to the Sugimori art for the model.

I’m currently drawing as many original Pokémon in Sugimori’s style as I can! Yes, love the style

Granted, I was a child during these times, but I thought these kinds of ads were so cool that I got the clear Game Boy based purely on the ridiculous commercial. All my school friends said I'll regret it and I did. Should have gone for blue.

fun fact, I thought Spearow (in the sprite) was looking really lazy with a half-drooped eyelid; it wasn't until after I drew it that I realized it was the shadow of the eyeball. Woops.

Sandslash is one of those Nostalgic ones for me because it was one of the first Tomy figures I got when just starting to learn about Pokémon

Digital illustration with a traditional appearance of purple and yellow-orange hues on canvas. The setting is Clocktown, from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. A low view of Link stepping away cautiously while looking up past the clocktower at the massive and menacing moon that will soon crash down on Termina.

Sandshrew. I like how the sprite has it just sitting around. This is probably my best sprite re-draw yet, I think.
