Quebec unions, opposition parties decry bill that would force striking employees back to work | CBC News If passed, Bill 89 would allow the Quebec government to maintain services that it considers important to the well-being of the population in the event of a strike or a lockout.

Heavy undermining of right to strike in Quebec and certain to challenged. SFL case guarantees broad right to strike which the Quebec law handcuffs. As the old adage goes, strikes are not tea parties - but they are fundamental to collective bargaining. #canlab www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Spotted out and about today. Here's the IP question: any potential confusion between the "canuck" marks? Likelihood of successful infringement claim if the Vancouver Canucks mark is registered? #iplaw #trademark #canuck

Recent BC LRB decision on the #Starbucks Dunbar closure. Held closure was legitimate though intimidation/coercion of employee union supporter. Interesting as this example came up in my recent labour law lecture. Very comprehensive reasons. #bclab #labour

Amazon union in Quebec files unfair labour practice complaint challenging mass closure of factories after workers unionize.

Complaint will almost certainly succeed. Little doubt the decision tainted by anti-unionism.

Getting order to re-open factories, much tougher.

Amazon closing all Quebec warehouses, laying off more than 1,700 workers Online retail giant Amazon is closing all its warehouses in Quebec, a spokesperson confirmed to CTV News. The company says it will cease operations over the next two months in various centres and faci...

So Amazon closing all Quebec locations shortly after a subsequent unionization? Be curious to see the business justification for full exit from Province. Decision has shades of the Walmart closure in Quebec back in 2005. #canlab #bclab #amazon

In my new book, I estimate that it costs on average $3,016 to unionize a new member through a traditional staff-intensive model

This was basically confirmed by an Andy Stern quote published yesterday in The New Republic πŸ‘€

Should we continue to encourage kids to go to college ? Or push them to take up a trade ?

I believe in college. Learning how to learn, IMO, is a critical life skill. Being exposed to people of different backgrounds, makes yiu wiser

Qualifier- it should be a school you can afford.

[FWIW, I've never heard of a company laying off strikers. But Canada Post's peculiar move does raise interesting legal issues for discussion!]

With Manitoba's recent introduction shift from mandatory ballots to card-check based certification, a majority of jurisdictions in Canada are again card-check.

Card-check permits unions to show majority employee support by membership cards. The vote model requires an additional vote as well.

I'll hedge that s. 107 will not be used here. Different stakes versus the port lockouts.
