Unions and governments in Canada must stand in solidarity with workers in the United States and condemn the ICE’s ongoing violence and intimidation at work sites and schools.

The assault on Huerta during an ICE attack on a worksite underscores the deep connection between the rights of workers and those of immigrants. The more vulnerable and precarious immigrant workers are, the easier it is to exploit their labour.

Huerta was assaulted and arrested as he monitored a raid by masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on a worksite in LA. ICE’s assault on Huerta was so violent that he had to be hospitalized following his arrest.

We must teach inclusive language and model correct pronoun usage in our classrooms. We must include trans stories in our lessons. And most importantly, we must be an ally for our trans students and colleagues by uplifting their voices. 3/4

When trans students see themselves reflected in the curriculum, everyone benefits. It builds empathy, understanding, and awareness for generations to come. As teachers, we must continue advocating for policies that support trans people in education. 2/4
