An Open Letter to the Monroe County Community from Library Director Grier Carson On behalf of the Monroe County Public Library, its staff, and its Board of Trustees, I want to draw your attention to a development of great significance to MCPL and to libraries across the country.

My library director had something similar to say. mcpl.info/openletter I hope more libraries are adding their voices.

IMLS funding is used in Indiana to support INSPIRE databases for all citizens, Libby ebooks and audiobooks through the Indiana Digital Library consortium, and a lot of other collective services. It is the opposite of waste and inefficiency. Sent this to my reps.

I would love to dump Facebook too, but I know that won’t happen at my library.

I think every library should stop posting on X and remove links to X from their websites. I’m working on getting my library to do it.

The sad part is I think a lot of folks in Indiana want this. They want the Feds and Fed dollars out of the state and when they start experiencing the consequences they will blame someone else.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

Years ago I was a history teacher and then school librarian in a middle school in Davis county. A lot of self/covert-censorship was happening then. Now it is out in the open.

Even with the horrors happening everywhere there’s still beauty being created every day.
