Excited to (finally) share the last bit of work from my undergrad with @lindseyswierk.bsky.social

Color change in female water anoles isn’t associated with social interactions, but color could signal body condition!

High dissolved oxygen extends dive duration and suggests physical gill use in a vertebrate Highlighted Article: High levels of dissolved oxygen in water extend dive durations in a semi-aquatic Anolis lizard, suggesting that anoles may rebreathe bubbles to uptake oxygen from stream water.

Water anoles take a bubble of air down when they submerge, which they breathe like a tiny scuba tank, and now @lindseyswierk.bsky.social & co reveal that the reptiles may also be using the bubble like a gill, to breathe oxygen directly from the water
