15.10.2025 15:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0First off, the way I asked that was so pompous and I didnโt mean it to be haha. To give them benefit of the doubt, drift, even though the โsimplestโ mechanism, is such a brain twist.

14.10.2025 16:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Saturday, I found an Eastern Hognose playing dead, with a twist. Platt (1969) wrote about hognose,"The mucous membrane lining the mouth sometimes hemorrhages and the mouth becomes bloody." Autohemorrhaging is well known in herps (Horned Lizards, Gr. Antillean Boas), but less reported in hognose.

We see it all on the livecam: the good, the bad, the ugly. This baby rattlesnake appears to have tangled with a predator, perhaps a bird. We haven't seen it again, so we hope it is healing up in a sheltered spot.

Really have been missing Louisiana recently and the time I spent at @lsumns.bsky.social as a PhD student. And the snakes. Oh man I miss the snakes. Here's a Cottonmouth from the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (Atchafalaya Basin). I miss their attitude so much!

Amazing!!! Iโm curious @thegarfather.bsky.social, since they are a collections nightmare, what is the BIGGEST fully intact Atractosteus specimen youโve seen or know of in a museum collection?
01.09.2025 18:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Greetings! I am the Zoology Collections Manager at the Sternberg Museum! Here is a typical cold day in Kansas, flipping Great Plains Ratsnakes on a 32F day. Quick question: as a new(ish) PI that is new to BlueSky, what's one advice or musing for new users? Thanks, and come see us at the Sternberg!
