Inside Pai is a much more callous dommy mommy demon alternate personality who looks down on humans. She’s fun.

This miniseries thrives on its blend of action, mystery, romance & comedy. I enjoyed the first 2 eps a great deal!

This one hits the anime weirdness pretty hard & is a delight to watch. Yakumo, an “average guy,” runs into (literally) Pai, an adorable demon girl who needs his help to become human.

I’m not an expert in trans issues & clearly there are conflicting perspectives on Luka. It just seems likely to me that without time travel fuckery, eventually Luka would have transitioned to female. 6/ END

Given that he wishes he were born a girl, & later doesn’t want to return to being male, I think it’s pretty clear that he should be a trans girl, regardless of authorial intent & anime community toxicity. 5/

Okabe’s homophobic reaction, while not great, is at least realistic & not over the top.

But later Luka wishes he were born a girl. Again, ok. But it seems to never occur to any of them that Luka could be a straight trans girl.

The way Luka is treated still bothers me. Though it helps to remember they’re all young & dumb, Luka’s gender could still have been handled with more awareness.

I think if they’d spent the last episodes leading up to the Autumn battle & left the battle itself for season 2, that would have been better pacing.

Still a great, funny, moving, really interesting series, only slightly marred by the final arc pacing. Highly recommend! 👍👍

It moves at a breakneck pace with no time to really explain what’s going on in the final battle with Autumn, which is a shame b/c it diminishes the emotional impact for an arc that should be every bit as deep as the rest of the series. 2/
