Flow Regime Controls Transport: a) Low Flow: #eDNA moves slower than the water itself! Adsorption and "hyporheic exchange" delay downstream movement. b) High Flow: #Turbulence takes over. Higher shear stress suppresses adsorption, keeping eDNA suspended in the water column.

The Riverbed acts as a Filter: We found that substrate matters. While eDNA moves more conservatively over smooth beds, gravel beds act like a filter, trapping genetic material in pore spaces. Surface-subsurface interactions significantly enhance retention rates.
