@irisvanrooij.bsky.social, Professor of Computational Cognitive Science, reveals AI slop being used by #ScienceDirect, and, unsurprisingly, getting it wrong.

"Stochastic regurgitation" is just the best term for what these programs do.

Remote work reduced gender discrimination — returning to the office may change that For many women, going back to the office can mean stepping back into environments where gender bias is more pronounced.

Study of 1,091 professional women in hybrid jobs finds in a typical month, 29% reported experiencing discrimination in the office vs 18% when working from home. The contrast was sharp for younger women (under 30) and women who worked mostly with men.

HTML’s Best Kept Secret: The output Tag Make your dynamic content accessible by default with the HTML tag that time forgot.

Huh, TIL there’s an <output> element, and it can be used to display the result of user inputs in a screen-reader-friendly way! I can think of a bunch of places I should be using this 😄

The Post-Developer Era • Josh W. Comeau When OpenAI released GPT-4 back in March 2023, they kickstarted the AI revolution. The consensus online was that front-end development jobs would be totally eliminated within a year or two.Well, it’s ...

✨ In March 2023, I published an article about AI.

This was right after OpenAI showcased how GPT4 could turn a hand-drawn sketch of a website into real HTML/CSS/JS. The consensus online was that FE jobs would stop existing within 1-2 years.

Well, it’s been 2 years! So, I just published a follow-up:

Pagefind | Pagefind — Static low-bandwidth search at scale Pagefind is a fully static search library that aims to perform well on large sites, while using as little of your users’ bandwidth as possible, and without hosting any infrastructure.

Do I know someone who has experience (or ability) working with Pagefind pagefind.app to implement search for an @11ty.dev based website who also happens to be available for hire?

I need someone who can use the search API to create a custom implementation with custom HTML markup.

Thank you #lazyWeb
