Interpreters' bill for the Courts Service set to exceed last year's This year’s bill is on track to be much larger than last year, with €2.09 million spent in the six-month period between January and June.

The Court Service pays €40/hour for interpreting and I cannot stress enough how poor that money is for the level of skill involved and the high stakes. Also the right to interpretation is a basic requirement of the right to a fair trial.

Does the United States Need an Official Language? Donald Trump’s executive order succeeds where decades of right-wing efforts have failed.

Donald Trump has declared English the official language of the U.S. But there is no evidence suggesting that English is under threat; a large majority of immigrants learn English, and more than 90 per cent of Americans speak it very well.
