Ah, 7:00 pm on a Friday night. Time to get in my pajamas and crack open volume 2 of a three-part series on the war in the pacific

Why yes, I am in my mid-40s, why do you ask?

You’re completely right, but I am loving the hardware so much. It really reminds me a lot of the early N64 days when the only three games available for like a year were Mario, Wave Race and Wayne Gretzky’s Hockey Challenge - but brilliant hardware (esp controllers and graphics)

I have definitely never written a provision that made sense to people in the room at the time and made no sense whatsoever in the cold light of day. Not me.

Backs away slowly.

God, that amendment must have been a piece of work. I can only imagine what long-outstanding debt / favor it was used to satisfy

Seems kinda unfair the end consumer gets dinged with the full amount of the VAT rate. Is the ultimate revenue collector double dipping in the production chain, or is there some elegant mathematic proof that the aggregate net added value charges equals exactly the amount of VAT equivalent sales tax?

Mother, may I, trouble you for more details?

This sounds so very much like my wheelhouse, I’d be grateful for the opportunity to learn more

So a VAT is just a sales tax on the end consumer, with the net portion thereof also charged on components in each stage in the production process?

Crazy that it went from a once-every-15ish years thing to literally unseen since the days of Roger Maris

I think it’s relatively easy to soak the lawyer making $50mm a year

Larry Ellison buying the rest of Kauai and, like, dissolving the county tax board is the more interesting one to ponder

Why, by extending a low-interest, non-recourse loan from the company to the CEO, of course

I get the argument that Houston should have been selected for a shuttle over SoCal. I disagree with that argument (SoCal is a larger population center and is where they actually built the thing) but it’s a reasonable argument imo

Moving it from the Smithsonian to Houston makes zero sense

β€œSo do you still believe in Santa? Because at 8, it’s pretty marginal, right?” is a hilarious bit under any circumstance, but again, just total accidental comedy as delivered by that guy

As is probably obvious from my replies, I feel like there’s a home run issue here that satisfies so, so many different constituencies, but lotsa people are so blinkered as to discriminate about where their electrons come from. Just crazy to me

I live in Texas. We’re the Saudi Arabia of wind! And potentially solar! And, oh yeah, oil and natural gas! We have our own electric grid, embrace it all (and, by the way, figure out how to build nuclear economically while we’re at it)!

Instead our government is making gold and silver legal tender πŸ™„

Agreed. I guess my point is that I just can’t believe that there’s not a portion of the Republican Party that’s figured out a way to brand themselves as broadly pro-electricity
