Took a bit of a hiatus from posting here and got sucked into TikTok because I really like video production and short form is fun. Looks like that will soon be a hellscape so I'll be back here with a video centric account.

Was recently in Columbia and saw a listing for the three bedroom two bathroom duplex I rented in the 90s for $550 – now $1,800. Neighborhood is in the county and significantly more run down today that it was then.

Ours is a hard shell CVT and basically the size of a queen bed. One thing I wish we could do is store bedding in ours when closed. Not a big deal but would be convenient.

Agreed! Another option is Saniderm or Tegaderm.

I've got a bunch of friends who use one on their main vehicle and don't seem to mind. The hardshell ones pack up much easier than soft covers. We can honestly have it packed down for travel in less than five minutes, so it wouldn't be terrible to do daily.

Any favorite packrafting locations? I picked up an Anfibio raft last summer and have only had one chance to use it.

I took a trip to do it on a summer break during college. Was doing some guide work so it made a lot of sense. It would be really hard to do it while working.

A11: Mostly self practice and working with others on trips. At one point I had a WFR certification but I haven't kept it current. #ParkChat

A10: With the teardrop we've got a nice two burner stove and a small firepit/grill. Sometimes we'll pack a Blackstone if we have space. For other trips a canister stove wins out. #ParkChat

We like it a lot. Really quick setup and packing. We've only used it on the teardrop, because I don't like packing up to go somewhere. #ParkChat

A8: Teardrop if we can, but also have a variety of tents, a hammock setup, and don't hate a cabin or lodge. We loved the tent cabins at Yosemite and Grant Grove cabins in Kings Canyon. About the only time we don't camp is if we have to fly. #ParkChat

Really was game changing. We upgraded from cots to the camper, the kids from the ground to cots. We've got a rooftop tent on it for trips with the whole family now. Pretty much use it for all our outdoor trips except for backpacking. #ParkChat

A7: Extra water and snacks always. Also a lot of patience. If you keep it up you'll have great hiking companions. Didn't have climbing the Mesa Verde ladders with a toddler strapped to my back on my bingo card, but the outcome was at six he hiked the Mist and John Muir trails at Yosemite #ParkChat

A6: I tend to be in the buy once, cry once camp on most things. That said I rarely carry my nice camera kit and just depend on my phone. The exception is if I think there's a good chance of wildlife photos. #ParkChat

A5: I started carrying a packraft with me last summer but have only had one real chance to use it.

Not a small gear item, but I'd have a hard time ditching the teardrop for trips where a small trailer can work. Was perfect backcountry at Big Bend in December. #ParkChat

A4: I got a set of Topo Trailventure boots and absolutely love them. They're just as light as my trail running shoes but have ankle support. I bounce between these, a set of Cloudsurfer Trail running shoes, Chacos, and HydroMocs. #ParkChat

I accidentally let a filter freeze over the winter. Thankfully it was very obvious the filter wasn't working and I had a spare one in my kit. Now there's always an unopened BeFree cartridge on trips - just replace it when I open it. #ParkChat

A3: After a few different trips with failures I always carry tenacious tape with me no matter the length of the trip. have some in my truck, in my pack, stashed with other random gear. It's amazing everything it can repair. #ParkChat

I do that and then think "It's not expensive, I'll try it!" Thankfully staggered all through the year so it never feels overwhelming. #parkchat

A2: It really depends on the trip. For a day hike I'm just shoving things in a small pack. For anything longer stuff sacks and packing cubes for specific purposes. #ParkChat

A1: Mostly use Gaia GPS on my phone and via CarPlay but also have OnX, and AllTrails. Whenever possible I pick up paper maps as well, especially at national parks. #ParkChat

Started my day by very nearly screaming at a staffer because he’s “not sure if the senator has an opinion” about the tariffs.

In other news, I’ve started to use shame as a logical strategy when talking to the people answering my calls. They should feel shame for this.
