Frankfurt was undoubtedly our best performance of the season but in the league it could be argued that the first half against The Ev aside, we’ve not had any standout performances. Would a routine 2-0 win tonight be too much to ask for? Hopefully we can kick on from Wednesday.

I didn’t say can’t but it would be wrong to say they’re as defensive sound or as imposing as Fab was. I didn’t think saying adding peak Fab to this MF would be controversial. I think he’d sort problems we’re currently facing, you disagree and that fine.

But you’re sharing defence responsibility with 4 players who don’t excel at defending. We won the PL so it’s wrong of me to say they can’t adequately handle the riggers of the PL but there’s times we look extremely lightweight. All I’m saying is a player that could help with that would be beneficial

Tacking is overrated but it’s still a necessity. It just helps when one of your technically proficient players can also win the ball back when the press doesn’t.

The only player in our squad that can tackle is Endo, thats what I’m alluding to. All are technically sound, can intercept, which is where the game is probably heading, but we can look wide open without anyone who can put fires out in that area a la Fabinho, even with two deep MF’s in there.

I guess as fans we pine for what worked so well in the past. Maybe that type is getting squeezed out the same way there are very few traditional number 9’s knocking about anymore.

Definitely. As much as we love Endo, we need someone that possesses physically, height and the ability to play. Who that is, I’ve no idea but I trust the club could find that player. The only thing is do the club think we actually need that profile?

Gravenberch is an excellent player I just don’t think he gives the same off the ball as Fabinho did, and I think that’s being hurting us at various points since 2023 when Fab’s form fell off a cliff. That being said I don’t think Fab is as good as Grav on the ball.

Good & bad on display that half. 1st shot = goal for them (Mama save just before was offside) but a good performance & a deserved lead. I don’t think the concern over a lack of pace & physicality is unfounded but one player we’ve never adequately replaced is Fabinho. No one in MF to get stuck in.

Atleti & the first half vs the Ev aside our performance haven’t been good enough for a team wanting to win the big cups. We’ve conceded 17 in 12 games in all competitions - nearly 1.5 per game. Thats our problem. We’re piss weak in defence & our forwards can’t bail us out every game.
