One of the coolest things (to me, at least) about writing with a creative parter is doubling the amount of media that can serve as inspiration for your own story. @rwmeadors.bsky.social shares more about how he and @marbach.bsky.social get inspiration for their shared urban fantasy universe:

RIP to Catherine O’Hara, my original movie mom. You sure have meant a lot to me over the years.

And the kid in the movie reminded me a little of me. But he had been separated from his mom in the movie, and her presence in the movie was all about trying to get back to him. I don’t think 6 year old Jason understood the psychology involved in that, but 41 year old Jason does.

The first movie I ever saw in theaters, when I was six years old, was Home Alone. My aunt and my grandma took me, and it remains one of my best childhood memories. I do remember it being odd (again, 6 years old) to do something without my parents or my sisters, though.

We did not properly punish the confederates. We did not properly punish the insurrectionists on January 6th. We have to punish ICE.

They can’t be allowed to slink back into their communities quietly. Expose them. Arrest them. Convict them. Imprison them.

In our heads while we’re writing, Paulo is a slightly younger John Leguizamo type, and Jenny we envision as Taylor Swift. Lol

We actually cast all our roles as we write them. We’ve found that since we’re a full time writing duo, it helps us synchronize a vision for each character (their voicing, mannerisms, etc) if we both kind of have the same vision for who they are, and casting helps with that synchronization. 😅

Our preceding novels (Projekt, God, Complex, and The Alluvion) each follow 3-4 main pov characters in a rotation. One thing @rwmeadors.bsky.social and I are hyper focused on is creating vivid, deep characters that feel like real humans, so that passion lends itself well to multiple POV stories lol

In this one, we tried a slightly different approach: writing 3 different short-but-connecting novellas, and Paulo is the main character in the first of the 3 stories. So there will be two more perspectives in the subsequent novellas, and the three novellas together will tell one overarching story.

Well, those are great questions. The Way Of Streams is actually the third of our books that Jenny and Paulo appear in, though they’re not main characters in the previous two books.

This is less than useless, this is actively harmful. The *democrats and their proposals here* are actively harmful, in addition to the obvious problem republicans are posing. It would be better if they did NOTHING than doing THIS. Just a historic failure across the board.

I’m really so excited about all of these, to be honest. Each one has different challenges that tickle a different itch, and they’re each big, sweeping stories with multiple POV characters. God, Complex is perhaps the most chaotic, insane story I’ve ever seen, and making it work is a blast, lol.

Y’all, I know, I know, marvel, Disney, etc. But #Wonderman absolutely fcks. Show is pure diesel. You don’t even have to like superhero sht to like it. If you’ve ever just been a big fan of acting, or the art of *making* films and shows, go watch Wonderman. Truly special stuff.
