Hi Early Career Researchers (ECR) in neuroscience!๐ง I've had a great time working as an ECR advisory board member in the Journal of Neuroscience @sfnjournals.bsky.social and learned so much from my peers and journal editors! We now invite you to join us! @sfn.org www.jneurosci.org/content/ecr-...
07.07.2025 19:24 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0With the first blood test for AD approved for clinical use, there may be great use of it to infer regional pathology when PET is not an option. Hasom Moon (the first author of the paper) is now studying the discordant cases to better understand and maximize the use of blood-based biomarkers!
21.06.2025 19:43 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0With these relationships, we can use p-tau217 to estimate the staging/severity of tau in the brain๐ง . The comparison between p-tau217-estimated tau map and actual tau PET shows high similarities(!) for both cross-sectional estimation (top) and longitudinal prediction (bottom)!

28.10.2024 21:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We think these specific pathology-cog relationships may be due to the regions' functional roles and the particular vulnerabilities of the frontal-parietal (executive) network to Aฮฒ and temporal (memory) network to tau in the very early stage of AD development!
28.10.2024 21:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Then relating the domain-specific residuals to PET change, we found Aฮฒ increases in right frontoparietal tracked EF decline, but not memory, even after controlling for tau change; tau increases in left MTL tracked memory decline, but not EF, after controlling for Aฮฒ change -- a double dissociation?!
28.10.2024 21:47 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Using longitudinal data in 76 older adults from the Berkeley Aging Cohort Study (~3 yrs PET, ~5 yrs cog), we first calculated domain-specific cog change residuals that represent how much faster their EF declined than expected based on their rate of memory decline (and vice versa)
28.10.2024 21:46 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0๐จ Please check out our new paper on a double (triple?) dissociation between early AD pathology and cognition: frontal-parietal Aฮฒ increases related to executive function (EF) decline, but not memory; temporal tau increases related to memory decline, but not EF! www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

The Cognitive HEalth and Neurodegeneration Lab (CHEN Lab) in the Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University will be accepting PhD students in Integrative Neuroscience. The CHEN lab, led by Dr. Xi Chen, is focused on brain and cognitive changes in aging, including a broad spectrum ranging from older individuals with exceptional cognition (โsuper-agersโ) to those in the early stages of Alzheimerโs disease (AD). To apply: โข Please check out the lab website for more information: drxichen.com โข If interested, please apply through the Universityโs doctoral program (Integrative Neuroscience in the Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University) before Dec 15. โข For questions regarding this opportunity, please contact Dr. Xi Chen at xi.chen.8@stonybrook.edu.
The Psychology Department at Stony Brook University encompasses doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Science, Integrative Neuroscience, and Social and Health Psychology. Being the birthplace of MRI, Stony Brook University has a 3 Tesla Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma MRI scanner at the Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience (SCAN) Center; a PET research facility with on-site cyclotron and research-dedicated simultaneous PET/MRI scanner and PET/CT scanners; the Center for Understanding Biology using Imaging (CUBIT); and the Stony Brook Neurosciences Institute, which includes the Center for Excellence for Alzheimerโs Disease, Neuromodulation Center, Center for Affective Neuroscience of Depression and Anxiety (CANDA), Mind-Body Clinical Research Center, and Parkinsonโs and Movement Disorders Center, among others.
