Women are understudied, underdiagnosed and undertreated for CVDs. Our study calls for more accurate CVD risk prediction and effective risk screening in women, especially young women, who have a high depression prevalence and are traditionally underestimated for CVD risks. β₯οΈππππ§‘ππ©΅π©·

Using UK Biobank data, genetic risk of depression was associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease and heart failure even in the absence of a depression diagnosis or psychiatric medication use. The same was not seen in men.
