The animated one is a more “competent” movie for sure, but 1993 wins for me and had me cackling. It’s extremely entertaining, especially when you know that Hoskins and Leguizamo were wasted the whole time (it shows!) and a bunch of it was made up on the spot.

Super Mario Bros. (1993). What a glorious dumpster fire of a movie. I remember when this looked fancy and futuristic to my shitty kid brain back in the day. Loved it then, and for very different reasons, still love it now.

I’m usually not into the idea of making a movie black and white after the fact, but it works really well here.

Supposedly, this is how the director always wanted it to look, but the studio folks said no at the time. I’m sure I’ll dig the color version too, but I imagine this will be my go to.

Just went to a showing of Johnny Mnemonic in Black & White. Never seen the original, but this was incredible. It has Dolph Lundgren as a cyborg Jesus assassin that screams “Jesus Time!” & crucifies Henry Rollins. It looked fantastic in B&W too. Loved every second. 5 out of 5, no notes.

The movie still rules regardless! It just caught me off guard when my subwoofer started doing stuff I’d never heard it do before haha… Really gives the speakers a workout.

Mainly stick to gaming on the weekends these days, and I just beat Chronos in Hades 2 for the second time! I haven’t haven’t had a successful run on the surface yet, but getting closer each time. Really digging it so far though!

If you have a decent sound setup, the audio was really impressive for Sinners too!

That rules. It’s so absurd and fun! Russell Crowe really should have played more villains because he was a natural at it.

Virtuosity (1995) was extremely entertaining! Ridiculous CGI, Russell Crowe playing a cackling psycho, and Denzel Washington has a macguffin metal arm. If you think about any point of the story for more than two seconds, it makes no sense. Pure movie logic all the way through.

It’s a weird mix of a fairly dark serial killer plot with tons of cheesy martial arts bullshit too. The soundtrack has this dreamy quality to it that makes everything feel super surreal, and I adored it. Definitely going to be revisiting this one.

I went into Undefeatable blind, thinking it was just going to be a cheesy martial arts movie with Cynthia Rothrock, and that would have been more than enough.

I was very wrong! Definitely one of the best I’ve seen from Vinegar Syndrome. Looks fantastic in 4k too. Highly recommended.

Drive (1997). Terrible dialogue, no chemistry b/w the leads, excellent action sequences, and a 30+ minute inconsequential subplot in the middle with Brittany Murphy as a bugs bunny-esque hornball. Highly recommended, especially for any fans of the masterpiece that is Double Team (1997).

The doughnut and the pumpkin they’re holding look like they’ve been covered in lube. The leaves surrounding them have a dull look that kind of emphasize this.

I just picked up Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Bridge too! I haven’t seen either before. I loved Roman Holiday though and want to check out Hepburn’s other movies.

The Switch Lite is slightly too big for me to justify the separate purchase. I want something that fits in my pocket and I can play in bed while laying on my back.

I’d probably still be using my Vita regularly if they didn’t stop making games for it. I really just want a Vita successor haha

Not sure about fps, but I had to update my TV (LG C4) to get it to read Hades 2 at all. I was getting an “invalid format” error message only on that one game. Scared the hell out of me at first haha

I got Emio on sale about a month ago, but haven’t had a chance to play it yet. Definitely looking forward to it! It’s been so long since I’ve played a VN.

I do wish the Switch (and especially Switch 2) were smaller. The Vita was the ideal way to play VNs for me.

Been replaying Mass Effect 1 for the first time in well over a decade. I forgot how story heavy and dialogue driven it is. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!

I never got around to replaying Mass Effect 3 after hating the ending back at launch, so it’ll be cool to see how I feel about it now.

Yeah, dude. I would have gone apeshit over this as a kid, but it’s basically in the same vein as North By Northwest or Three Days of the Condor with children. It’s a legitimately great watch.

I kinda like the cover! I am surprised this wasn’t released by another label though. It’s a way different vibe than their usual stuff.

Mostly just happy this got released at all. No Dolby Vision or 5.1 sound, but the transfer looks great, and everything sounds solid enough.

This movie stars Elliot from E.T. in a spy movie where he has an Atari game with government secrets on it. Grown men chase him around with guns and try to murder him.

I went into it expecting “so bad it’s good” because it’s on Vinegar Syndrome, but it’s actually just fantastic and rules.

Picked up some more movies, all of them for 50% off or more. Only one not a blind buy was AAWIL. The Long Kiss Goodnight was crazy good. New favorite Shane Black movie. Ticks (starring Seth Green & Alfonso Ribiero) was super fun too!

Really looking forward to Doom Generation & Nowhere.
