A federal agency - which controls an enormous amount of money - is breaking the law to hide its decisions from you and avoid accountability.
Hey OMB, see you in court.
Breaking: The Department of Education has reversed course and is releasing all frozen funds β $6.8b nationally, $165m for North Carolina β after we filed suit last week.
This ends weeks of uncertainty. Our schools can now plan and hire for a strong year ahead.
Good news:
The Ed Department says it's giving states the after-school funding it unlawfully froze.
Thatβs about $36m of the $165m in education funding they froze for NC.
We'll see them in court for the rest.
My thanks to the 10 Republican senators who just asked the federal government to unfreeze billions in education funding.
They echo the case Iβm making in court: that Congress created these programs, approved the plans, and now the funds must go to the students.

Breaking: We just filed suit to protect $165m in education funding in NC and prevent the layoff of roughly 1,000 educators right before the school year starts.

Me: "Yes."
Her: "Wow. What did your bike look like?"
Me: "Like yours."
Her [muttering to herself]: "Dang, that's amazing."

She says, "In the 1980's, did they have brakes on their bikes or did they have to stop with their feet?"
I said, "We had brakes."
Her: "How do you know?"
Me: "Because I was alive then."

Because we took action to defend the Constitution, North Carolinians still have their 14th Amendment right to citizenship. While this case has been sent back to a lower court for review, our position remains unchanged. The 14th Amendment is clear, and we will defend it. apnews.com/live/supreme...
27.06.2025 15:12 β π 124 π 25 π¬ 7 π 5Heads up: Buried in a 1,000-page bill is a section that would freeze every stateβs ability to enforce A.I. laws for the next 10 years.
That means no new protections from A.I. scams, deepfakes, or impersonation.
Bad idea.

Congratulations to Justice Allison Riggs. The rule of law held. The will of the voters was upheld.
This attack didnβt work, but thereβs a real risk that other losing candidates might try the same attack in the future.Β
We will always defend your right to vote - and the lawful outcomes of elections.
And it put tens of thousands of lawful votes at risk - including ballots from military servicemembers and long-time North Carolinians who followed the rules and voted lawfully.
07.05.2025 15:27 β π 270 π 12 π¬ 2 π 0But letβs be clear - this never should have happened.
There was no sound legal basis for trying to change the rules after the fact. From the beginning, it was an attempt to twist the law to reverse the outcome of a legitimate election.
Breaking: NC Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin just conceded the election - six months, and three rounds of vote tallies, after he lost.
Our office led the legal defense of this election, pushing back against an effort to throw out tens of thousands of lawful votes.
We do a wide variety of things at NCDOJ, but restoring the eyesight of blind cockatoos isnβt on the list.
Full credit to the vets at NCSU for helping this bird see again, and to the overworked editors at the N&O who sometimes put the wrong photo with the headline. Cheers to you both.
Big win: A judge just ruled that Google's ad technology business is an illegal monopoly. Democratic and Republican AGs, including us, sued Google for illegally using its power to drive out competitors, forcing other websites to create paywalls to make revenue, and ultimately harming you, the user.

Some landlords are using A.I. to illegally coordinate rent hikes.
As NCβs new AG, hereβs what weβre doing about it:
This would have threatened thousands of jobs and innovation across NC.
It was a reminder that part of this job is being a shield against unlawful federal acts that would undercut our economy and hurt our future.
For the good of our state, that shield should remain in place.
Yesterday proved why North Carolina needs an Attorney General who can challenge unlawful executive orders.
We won an injunction against an order that would have cut hundreds of millions in research funding from our public universities and research institutions.
Update:
www.wcnc.com/article/news...
Breaking: The court has granted our request for another restraining order, this time to stop the federal government from unlawfully slashing research funding that was already approved. This would have cost NCβs universities hundreds of millions and damaged core industries, prompting major layoffs.
