Carpal tunnel will rob you of YEARS of practice. Your wrist will get stiff, you'll loose muscle memory and you won't even notice while it's happening!!

Please please please if you're an artist, take care of your hands!!
Do those stretches, stop when it hurts, don't push through the pain, sleep with a brace, etc

But looking at my recent-ish art, I've definitely noticed a HUGE skill regression. It was never depression but my damn carpal tunnel.
My carpal has been continually been robbing me of what I once had holy shit

ANYWAY, today I found an old hard drive and currently going through my old art!!
Surprisingly enough, stuff I've drawn 10 years ago is *actually* still half decent!!

I went on a rant awhile back about feeling like my art isn't the same, and that I put no love into it anymore, etc etc. I always assumed that it was my depression + mental illness severely affecting my ability to create.

The last truely wild horse, Przewalski's horses are not directly related to modern domesticated horses. They went functionally extinct in the wild due to over hunting, but thanks to a successful captive breeding program they have been reintroduced to their native home of Central Asia.

Horses are believed to have been domesticated in Central Asia over 6000 years ago, and now can be found all over the world in domestic and feral populations.

Believed to be the direct ancestors of domesticated donkeys, Wild Asses are hardy animals suited to life in the deserts on the Horn of Africa. They are critically endangered due to over hunting, habitat loss and interbreeding with domesticated species.

After much scientific debate, the Zebra's distinct black and white stripes are now believed to help deter bites from disease carrying insects. Unlike their more docile relatives, the Zebra has never been successfully domesticated owing to their more aggressive and unpredictable temperaments.

I can finally relax and give myself room to create 'ugly' art again. Physically, I can no longer produce my best and I'm okay with that!!

Against all odds tho, it feels really freeing to finally have answers I never knew I needed!!

I know it's my dumb deer brain, but the brain cells never made that connection. I always just assumed that I couldn't draw anymore because I wasn't trying hard enough 💀

How hard is it to start a company and just. Run it. Live your life and die. No collecting user data, no mergers, no subscriptions. Just run the fucking thing, sell ur dumb product, get ur bag and shut up.

I've been under the assumption that it was simply laziness caused by over reliance of refs but how could I have a 'good art day' if my hand was failing me??
Imposter syndrome has been eating me alive so badly that I don't even feel like a artist anymore!!

The last 2 - 3 years, I've felt like I've almost lost all my muscle memory; relying more on references then ever.
Things that used to be second nature needed refs or else I simply couldn't draw it.

Now that I got my official diagnosis for carpal; I'm extremely curious if my skill degradation in art was never me but caused by the severity of the condition.

No one believed me for YEARS. That I was either faking or too young to have anything wrong with me.

UPDATE: the test was painful BUT severe carpal tunnel in the right hand and moderate in the left hand. The doctor suggested to put my request in for surgery asap.

I've been dealing w/ what we assume is carpal tunnel for years now. It'd be really great just to finally get answers for what's been destroying my life for years!!

Love having anxiety abt my doctors appointment today but REALLY hoping I get some sort of diagnosis for my hand issues!!
