I always find REST annoying because "Why do I need to think about how to map this operation onto GET/POST/DELETE/etc" but sure. When I looked a few years ago, SSE was not quite usable.

I think the thing on 24.04.1 is some gnome RDP server. It's not documented very well online, but the sharing UI worked for me. I can't find its commandline interface anymore, though I know it had one. That "desktop user must be logged in" requirement really got me though until I knew.

If your current TV box is Ubuntu, 24.04 has an internal RDP server. Inconveniently it doesn't work unless you're logged in, so I set that PC to auto-login and it just works. My VPN client on that PC requires LAN access to be explicitly enabled too, but if you can SSH in you can probably RDP.

I would try RDP. Run Remmina on Ubuntu. Those MeLE PCs come w/ Win11 Pro, the Pro gets you the remote desktop server capability. It has a tiny bit of latency but overall it makes it not jarring to switch OSes. OTOH, you lose the immersive "focus on a task" experience.

We hardly have rent control in Portland. Rents are flat for the last several years, if you hit the limit something is wrong with you. No abolishment needed. I've also not seen issues with evictions for cause. If there is a reason, you do it, and it works as you'd expect. What's the problem?

F washman and fubonn and whatever strip mall owner. Every time I drive on 82nd traffic hits 39mph for a good stretch of it. I don't know how that's good. If there's a plan to a) reduce traffic and b) reduce speed, that should be done. It's a terrible design as it stands today.

Really? The 72 is full!? That's cool to know, I did not. 82nd is such an unnecessarily dangerous road, I can't imagine someone with a property there *wanting* it to stay like it is.

For what it's worth, I highly recommend the MeLE Quieter4C that you can get on Amazon. I have several of them now. You can't quite do CAD work on it over RDP, but I do everything else that way.

I solve my (rare) Windows needs with a $230 N100-based PC sitting in the corner, accessible via RDP when you need it.

What's up with those streets? Why would anyone want to pay for a city to be *that* ? Like obviously you could afford anything, and this is what you chose? Wide, clean, theoretically nice, even bike lanes everywhere, and absolutely empty, void of any life or interest.

It seemed crazy to me how cheap the data storage is! Then I calculated it, US$122/TB/year. Seems just about right, given today's raw retail storage device pricing.
