While the announcement of a draw down of federal agents is progress, it’s not enough. ICE is still disrupting and terrorizing our communities, immigrants and people of color are still being targeted, and our communities are still not safe.

Judge orders release of 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father from ICE detention A 5-year-old boy and his father must be released by Tuesday from the Texas center where they’ve been held after being detained by immigration officers in Minnesota, a federal judge ordered Saturday.

"Detained families report poor conditions like worms in food, fighting for clean water and poor medical care at [the center] since [last year]. In Dec, a report filed by ICE acknowledged they held about 400 children longer than the recommended limit of 20 days."

Today a federal judge ordered Liam Conejo Ramos, a preschooler from Columbia Heights, be returned home along with his father whose asylum claim is pending.

All children deserve safety and to sleep in their own bed, and we cannot rest until Liam, and every child, is home.

"Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. "I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He has his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed. Senate Minneapolis Delegation Statement on Person Shot and Killed in Minneapolis by ICE Another person is dead today because of ICE. They must leave Minnesota now. The federal government has lied to the people of Minnesota and to the people of the United States about Operation Metro Surge. It is a direct threat to the life and liberty of every member of our community and is only bringing chaos and violence. The agents who participated must be arrested and brought to justice in a transparent and thorough investigation. Congress must withhold further funding for ICE and use its oversight powers to immediately review the conduct of these federal agents who are showing a blatant disregard for not only constitutional rights, but human life itself.

Native American Caucus Condemns ICE’s Detainment and Racial Targeting of Native Americans Native peoples are Indigenous to this country, existing on this continent for thousands of years before the colonization of this nation – rendering deportation impossible and absurd. Native Americans are citizens by law, history, and treaty. We demand an immediate halt to ICE’s operations for good, an end to the discriminatory practices, and a comprehensive, transparent investigation of ICE and its accomplices across the system. Nobody is illegal on stolen land. We echo calls from the community to Tribal and urban Native leaders to rise up and declare: ICE is not welcome and has no authority on any Tribal or urban Native lands, businesses, or other entities.
