I find Gmail’s new “write this for me” feature deeply sinister. They’re trying to convince you that you are dumb and helpless. Don’t let them steal your ability to formulate thoughts and communicate. You were capable of writing an email in 2022 and you’re capable now.

What Does CDBG Do? The president has floated cutting Community Development Block Grants from the budget. How do these grants get used at the local level?

Found this article by @shelterforce.bsky.social and wanted to share.

I've written a couple CDBG grant applications for projects that would make a huge difference in their local communities.

Split-image with the text “TO BEE or NOT TO BEE.” The left side shows a vibrant wildflower meadow with a bee on a daisy, symbolising biodiversity and a healthy ecosystem. The right side shows a dry, barren landscape with dead trees and no visible wildlife, representing environmental degradation. An EU flag appears in the bottom right corner.

Today, over 20,000 bee species are buzzing for #WorldBeeDay 🐝

Bees & other pollinators keep 80% of crop and wild flowering plants alive.

Yet, 1 in 10 bee, hoverfly, and butterfly species are now at risk of extinction in the EU.

Millions of honeybees are dying — and no one is sure why Scientists likely won’t have answers anytime soon – in part thanks to the Trump administration’s heavy cuts to USDA funding and staff

Well, this is not good.

Also, as I looked for more information on the sudden loss of millions of honey bees, I am SO annoyed that most articles are framing the story around how this is going to cause the price of honey to increase. Like, that's the least of our worries!! 😭

A screenshot of the Muppet script that reads: Kermit: Yeah, well, I've got a dream, too. But it's about singing and dancing and making people happy. That's the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And, well, I've found a whole bunch of friends who have the same dream. And...and it kind of makes us like a family. Do you have anybody like that, Hopper?"

Just read my first banned book of the year - Looking for Alaska by John Green.

It's one of the top 25 most banned books in Alabama because the teenage characters drink alcohol and talk about sex. But, I don't think there's anything too inappropriate for a high school student to read. 🤷‍♀️

My favorite read of the week:

"If you cut a person off from reading, you’re a thief. You cut them off from the song that humanity has been singing for thousands of years. You cut them off from what we have laid out for the next generation, and the next."

Multigenerational Living Isn't Immigrant Culture, It's Human Culture Living with extended family is something Americans often associate with immigrant households. But why?

I read and bookmarked this article years ago. I think it speaks perfectly to why multi-gen living is something that should more widely practiced.

NAR's 2024 Profile of Buyers and Sellers Report revealed more multi-generational homes were purchased in 2024 than ever before. I hope this trend continues.

Multi-gen living is the norm in so many other cultures and used to be here in the US as well. Going back would solve a lot of problems.

1000% this. Public libraries are actually pretty radical--free to all, and based on the idea that info should be available to all. Get a library card! Use your library! Those numbers often play into their funding.

Today marks two years of living in Alabama. It was a huge change, that's for sure, but there's a lot of beauty here - in both the scenery and the people.

That being said, there are a lot of things I don't understand. Obvious topics aside, I don't get the love of queso. Why is it on everything???
