An advanced new machine-learning model can find genes connected to autism spectrum disorder New work published in GENETICS shows us how new genes can be found faster and with less data than ever before.

I have recently become one of the freelance writers for Genetics Society of America's blog Genes to Genomes! I'm so thrilled to be continuing to write about innovative genetics and genomics research. My first post is out today, check it out here!

Highlight of my year ... by far ... has been welcoming Melissa and her lab to the NIH. After a slightly(!) rocky start, we're allowed to hire trainees again, so please reach out to her if you're interested. You won't find a better mentor!

Even having done this activity SEVERAL times over the years and understanding how it works through and through, I still get starstruck when I see DNA. I still feel so lucky to be a part of the genomics community in any way. 🧬 ❀️

Happy DNA Day! It is a bittersweet one this year since many of us were laid off from NHGRI. One of my favorite memories was getting to write and be in a video with Eric Green where we showed people how to extract DNA from a strawberry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMw4...

I wrote a thing.

I am eternally grateful for my editor, who took the original draft and helped me narrow down my key points into a more effective piece with a broader reach.

Also, thanks to the editorial & legal teams, who maintained the message while protecting us in this fraught moment.

A phylogeny of the 7 ape genomes that have now been completed from "T2T", with Homer Simpson representing mankind.

A project five years in the making, we've now published complete "T2T" genomes for six additional ape species! It turns out that finishing (and analyzing) six genomes is slightly more work than one... doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Our primate T2T paper came out in Nature yesterday! It was a huge effort and I'm so grateful that I got the opportunity to work with this amazing group of scientists over the first two years of my PhD!

If you are in biomedical space and you need a social media person and you don’t hire Jenny, I don’t even know what you are doing (same goes for the rest of the NHGRI comms office and other roles).

When I started working on our social media strategy, I knew it wasn't enough to just post facts about genomics research. We wanted to build a relationship with our followers! I learned that you can be incredibly weird on social and still have an important message that people will remember.

Some of you may know me for making unhinged genomics memes for NHGRI! Here are some of my favorites. 😊

I was so thankful to be able to take my obsession with pop culture with my passion for making research accessible, and turn it into some of our most successful messaging.
