29.04.2025 19:30 β π 7 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Highlight of my year ... by far ... has been welcoming Melissa and her lab to the NIH. After a slightly(!) rocky start, we're allowed to hire trainees again, so please reach out to her if you're interested. You won't find a better mentor!
29.04.2025 18:38 β π 19 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Even having done this activity SEVERAL times over the years and understanding how it works through and through, I still get starstruck when I see DNA. I still feel so lucky to be a part of the genomics community in any way. 𧬠β€οΈ
25.04.2025 16:27 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Happy DNA Day! It is a bittersweet one this year since many of us were laid off from NHGRI. One of my favorite memories was getting to write and be in a video with Eric Green where we showed people how to extract DNA from a strawberry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMw4...

I am eternally grateful for my editor, who took the original draft and helped me narrow down my key points into a more effective piece with a broader reach.
Also, thanks to the editorial & legal teams, who maintained the message while protecting us in this fraught moment.
A phylogeny of the 7 ape genomes that have now been completed from "T2T", with Homer Simpson representing mankind.
A project five years in the making, we've now published complete "T2T" genomes for six additional ape species! It turns out that finishing (and analyzing) six genomes is slightly more work than one... doi.org/10.1038/s415...

14.04.2025 13:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If you are in biomedical space and you need a social media person and you donβt hire Jenny, I donβt even know what you are doing (same goes for the rest of the NHGRI comms office and other roles).

08.04.2025 16:11 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When I started working on our social media strategy, I knew it wasn't enough to just post facts about genomics research. We wanted to build a relationship with our followers! I learned that you can be incredibly weird on social and still have an important message that people will remember.
08.04.2025 16:11 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Some of you may know me for making unhinged genomics memes for NHGRI! Here are some of my favorites. π
I was so thankful to be able to take my obsession with pop culture with my passion for making research accessible, and turn it into some of our most successful messaging.
NHGRIβs comm team was exceptionally good and if anyone is looking for a talented science communicator, you should snap up Jenny as soon as possible.
02.04.2025 12:38 β π 42 π 18 π¬ 1 π 0This means so much, thank you Shawn! It was such a delight and an honor to work with you.
02.04.2025 13:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thank you so much, that means the world!
02.04.2025 13:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Our comms team was the best to ever do it! They are also the kind of people who, even while saying goodbyes, kept making me smile. I'm going to miss them terribly. If you're in need of some stellar folks, get in touch
