The important lesson capital learned is that people could happily divorce art from whether it was exploitative, harmed someone or its proceeds went to people who did.

I think the argument of ‘separating art from artist’ that people used so they didn’t need to reflect on art from abusers, fascists and bigots set us up for AI generated art.

They were functionally arguing that art didn’t need context which turned art into faceless product.

They’ll never admit it’s genocide till they’re clear. They’ll never admit to being Nazis until it’s too late.

They play you for time by getting you to think they’re misguided, misinterpreted, mistaken.

It tells you they’ll harbour more of them and treat you like the complainer if you point that out.

That’s how you get shitty social groups that reflexively house abusers.

It’s not that you can’t ‘disagree’ with someone, but holding it up as the highest ideal where you aren’t critical about what that political difference means is dangerous and ultimately poisons a community.

It also tells them you’re willing to sell out someone else’s rights by reducing them down to a ‘political difference’ - not more worth defending as a point of argument.

The idea that you should be able to disagree with someone yet still sit beside them is what fascists use to co-opt and take over your communities.

It tells them you have no accountability framework and that you’re susceptible to appeals to vanity.

If you’re not here for Palestinians too then your defence of free speech and boycotts are hollow.

Fascists have been trying to frame free speech, not as protecting the rights of the marginalised to speak, but as people with power being able to say whatever they want.

If you treat rights as something that only a few people get you’re telling everyone you see them as privileges.

If you want to know why your rights to free speech are constantly under threat it’s because white people only ever mobilise like this for white people.

Reminder that Canada and Australia play the role of ‘good coloniser’ and recognising Palestine this late into the genocide is part of that narrative.
