Heads up folks: @thetnholler.bsky.social posted an AI-generated video this morning that was a deepfake of the captain of the U.S. women’s hockey team, and they seem to be promoting it as if it’s a real video. So watch out for that and don’t spread fakes.

So yeah, i think these recent “but there’s some good stuff in AI” pieces seem a little off right now

They’re seeing things like poorly written marketing emails or texts that they don’t want.
AI agents in their email that may bring some useful things but also can have a really creepy intrusive vibe.
And then there’s the growing concern that a lot of money is being invested in all this …

… There are really good, important uses like in radiology, machine learning to flag possible cancer cells.
Instead, the public is seeing huge data centers being built that may be causing them higher electric bills - or worse if you live near them.

I think the biggest challenge with getting people to adopt AI is due to the industry itself - it’s wrapped up a whole lot of different technologies under one term - “AI” - that’s become to be understood as an overhyped marketing strategy … 1/x
