Laura Fine's team responded to my Qs about the leaked AIPAC email, whether she supports it framing Biss and Abughazaleh as "dangerous detractors" and whether accepting AIPAC money calls into question calling herself a progressive
Here's her statement (provided w/ a list of legislative awards):
A group of students are boycotting Northwesternβs controversial antibias training video, which critics say conflates criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Those who refuse to complete the online training will be unable to enroll in fall classes, the university said.

Inbox: IL9 hopeful and former prosecutor Nick Pyati raised $250,000 in the third quarter
His campaign said it shows a βclear desire for an alternative to Daniel Biss and Kat Abughazaleh.β
Heβll likely sit well over $1m behind those two when they drop their reports
Newman was redistricted out of her seat in 2022. The IL3 seat is now held by Rep. Delia Ramirez

See below:
Fine has accepted $ from JACPAC per her Q2 filing; Biss had not.
We'll see more in the coming days with Q3 filings set to drop on Oct. 15
Abughazaleh doesn't name Laura Fine in this post, instead saying AIPAC is trying to buy the election for "my opponents" (although the subtitle says just 'opponent')
Biss, Fine and Phil Andrew are all named on JACPAC's site (another pro-Israel group that supports Dems)
www.jacpac.org/jac-candidates
He wrote his positions in an Aug. 22 Substack post but hasn't sat down for me (or anyone else) yet with a more detailed and lengthy interview about this (and his other positions)
Hopefully, that'll be soon

He's also faced pushback in the past for his stance on these issues, dropping his gubernatorial campaign running mate over his support for BDS
See this recent Trib letter to the editor asking a few questions about his stance

Biss called for U.S. recognition of Palestine in August, also calling for offensive arms sales to be stopped. He did not call Israel's actions a genocide, instead using the word 'atrocities'
Bushra Amiwala said using the word 'genocide' is a litmus test for Dems

(Bottom of second screenshot)
Abughazaleh is referring to State Sen. Laura Fine here, who was named in a leaked AIPAC email naming both Abughazaleh and Daniel Biss as βdangerous detractorsβ
Fineβs campaign did not respond to my questions about the email and neither did AIPAC
The Q3 fundraising deadline is midnight tonight

BREAKING: The Evanston City Council has tabled a proposal for a 31-story tower in downtown Evanston, delaying initial consideration on the project to Oct. 27
Developers said they will have conversations with the council members and "look at all the options" about potentially reducing the height
BREAKING: The Evanston City Council has tabled a proposal for a 31-story tower in downtown Evanston, delaying initial consideration on the project to Oct. 27
Developers said they will have conversations with the council members and "look at all the options" about potentially reducing the height
Rodgers now agrees to pull his motion to send it back to LUC
He says he'd support 20-24 floors instead
That means this will likely be tabled for a future council meeting to make slight height changes to get Nieuwsma on board
Nieuwsma, Harris (probs), Iles, Geracaris and Nieuwsma would be the 5
Nieuwsma says he'd support a reduction in one floor of parking, pushing the lost spots to city-owned lots and a slight floor reduction
Like I previously said, Nieuwsma had conversations with developers recently about 28 floors, reducing one parking and two residential
Convo right now is between two things
1) Table this today and let the developers make adjustments to get to 5 yes votes
2) Send it back to the Land Use Commission
Sounds like the push to send it back to land use might fail, which will likely mean the project will be tabled later this evening

Back to 605 Davis now
Ald. Jonathan Nieuwsma (4th) said he will prepare a motion later to table the discussion, asking the development team to come back with something "somewhat scaled down."
The typically pro-housing alder called it "Too much of a good thingβ and said he can't support 31 stories
