A lack of nursing home oversight is a problem for many states
Many state nursing home oversight agencies are understaffed.Β Advocates for residents say that is increasingly putting people who live in nursing homes at greater risk of abuse and neglect.
Understaffing at state agencies that oversee #NursingHomes puts residents at greater risk of abuse and neglect. And it's a growing problem, as I explain in this NPR piece. The good news: @justiceinaging.org is pursuing a legal strategy to help address it.

Justice in Aging's Statement on Final Passage of Budget Bill - Justice in Aging
The bill sets a dangerous precedent that Congress will use Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP as a piggy bank for billionaires.
"Cutting Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP is morally indefensible under any circumstance, but this budget bill is particularly cruel," said @kevinprindiville.bsky.social.
It endangers not only the lives of todayβs older adults but future generations as well.

Kern Countyβs lawmakers are declining to comment on the Senateβs passage of the major spending bill until after the U.S. House of Representatives casts its own vote Wednesday.

chip and medicaid cuts growing to 12-14% by 2034
Cost estimate of the House-passed "Big Beautiful Bill" is out
It'd be the largest cut to Medicaid+CHIP and SNAP in history while still increasing deficits by $2.4 trillion due to $3.8 trillion in tax cuts
This'd be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in history

If this bill becomes law, millions of seniors and people with disabilities will have the essential care and support they rely on every day taken away. The nonpartisan CBO estimates 8.6M more Americans will be uninsured as a result of the new GOP budget bill's #Medicaid cuts.. and another 5.1M from #ACA changes.
