I grew up in rural Indiana. One summer I just devoured the Pendergast series. This one stuck the best. So creepy and moody. Riding home from the library by the cornfields was never the same.

Finally got my horror book group off the ground at my new job, and we're starting with The Best of Richard Matheson collection. His work is legend.

Coworker today: "Yeah, Elon's gonna take us to Mars!"
Me: "Oh. Is that what he was pointing at?"
Blessed silence.

Please buy books and read them. It will matter moving forward.

Spent this morning doing something constructive: drinking my coffee and planning the last of my garden plots for this summer and fall. Next weekend, olla-making for the droughts/water bills.

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

Ended up going with Prydain, but I also read The Dark is Rising Sequence on my own time.

My 5th grade English teacher was...scary... She kept a gavel to whack on her desk if we got a little loud. But she had us read A Wrinkle in Time, Over Sea & Under Stone, and The Book of Three. After, we individually chose what series we continued for the year. Freedom to read. Took it and ran!

I mean this in all due disrespect, Copilot (and I know we just met), fuck off.

Gonna put on The Straight Story tonight and cry more than usual.
