Like, I think about how Japan has a specific formal concept of how and when you make a public apology, and the public might find those apologies hollow or insincere, but the willingness to undergo the embarrassment of saying the humbling words is part of what makes it an apology

I have a pet theory that this is because white Protestant culture has an underdeveloped formal model of apology. If accountability for wrongdoing is only between you and God (not even mediated through a priest), then a public performance of repentance is not just insincere but needless.

I think it is totally possible that teens are better informed about and more able to control their own exposure to sex, which seems pretty healthy to me really. And that they understand as readers and writers that there are other ways to show love, vulnerability, and intimacy.

My take is that most of this criticism(?) doesn't hold up when you know how much explicit sex teens read, write, and draw. Unless the criticism is that they are less interested in watching actual people appear to have sex, which strikes me as an odd thing to worry about.
