I think you misunderstood (seriously or jokingly) what I meant by passing in this context, but no worries. 😊

Passing style guide thought: I believe in capitalizing "Coke." Not for any trademark reasons, but just to prevent the off-chance that the lower-case version is mistaken for "cocaine."

There are so many reasons to say no to generative-AI that have absolutely nothing to do with the quality of its output, even you’ve somehow convinced yourself that its quality isn’t unacceptably low.

When discussions arise of the great collections, as they do at the dinners I must attend, I lose my appetite. Names such as Verrier and Price come up, and the Rose Gallery, the miniatures room at the Musee de X, the catacombs of Moriconi. Famous collections, and in their way flawless, assembled with what the world deems taste. But assembled. That is exactly the word, and precisely the problem. Few people can see this.

It takes a certain connoisseur of exquisite taste to appreciate the finer things in life, such as @shaenon.bsky.social’s new story, β€œMy Collectors.”

"Mrs. No Face" by Cressida Roe

Two rows of painted faces stared at me out of the gloom, expressions frozen in their eternally mandated roles. I had gone to a Noh performance with my okan once, before she died. Look, she said, when the characters switched their masks over the course of the play. People may seem to change, but they don’t really. You must know them at their heart; you cannot trust the face they try to show you.

I don’t have an eligibility post. I didn’t have anything published this year, and I’m under no illusions that anyone’s going to nominate me for Best Editor (Short Form). But I did edit and publish 4 issues of Kaleidotrope in 2025, and I’m very proud of all of the fantastic work I was able to share!
