Veterans’ Care at Risk Under Trump as Hundreds of Doctors and Nurses Reject Working at VA Hospitals Amid concerns about the stability of the agency, records show nearly 40% of the doctors offered jobs at the VA from January through March of this year turned them down β€” quadruple the rate of…

The VA is down 600 doctors and about 1,900 nurses so far this year, the first time the agency has seen net losses in years.

At several facilities, more than a third of the positions for doctors are unfilled.

Why is Donald Trump protecting left-wing politicians and left-wing billionaires who associated with Jeffrey Epstein from justice?

Why is he hiding that from the American people? What else must be in the Epstein files that he so badly wants to hide that he's protecting political opponents to do it?

"PhD-level experts in your back pocket" is a completely nonsensical description of AI but a pretty good description of social media if you follow the right people

We've become so accustomed to lawbreaking that this probably won't ripple much, but it is important not to forget that firing the IRS Commissioner for refusing to break the law--if that's in fact what happened here--would and should prompt immediate articles of impeachment in any other presidency.

Reminder, again, that, yes, while the DOGE-ing was juvenile & clueless, it is vitally important to remain focused on the fact that these people need to be arrested, prosecuted, & sent to jail for a very long time for illegally & unconstitutionally dismantling the federal government.

People should scream bloody murder about RFK blocking vaccines for kids.

I mean it. Mothers and fathers should get hysterical.

I'd rarely advise this as a strategy. But, I think it's appropriate for this. What could be more clear and stark? It's not hard to explain to reporters.

The Race to Find a Measles Treatment as Infections Surge The measles vaccine was so effective the disease was considered eliminated in the U.S., but a resurgence of outbreaks is spurring a need for drugs.

As the US hits a 33-year high in measles infections, there is now a "race" to find a treatment for the disease.

One pharma company "is banking on a continuing decline in vaccination rates to fuel a need for measles treatmentsβ€”and in turn, more investor interest"

This is the guy who was arrested in Bend, Oregon.

He lived near the Old Mill District and served on the board of a local veterans organization.

I can’t say it enough: U.S. culture is scam culture. It pervades everything we do. We don’t notice it because it’s the water we swim in. A party would do well to remind everybody how awful this is and propose to fix it.

More elected officials should ask for data when making policy!

It’s been surreal to watch how the transit agency in Bend is discussing bringing back fares and still hasn’t presented a single piece of data to support the policy choice

What are the costs? How much will be raised? No change scenario?

I know nobody under 30 will believe me, but this is the sort of scandal that ended careers, back in the before-times. Congressional hearings, weeks worth of Nightline reports, the whole works. The press _lived_ for this stuff.

It always stuck with me that during Peak Austerity around 2011 or so, Pierce County zeroed out their mosquito control program.

That was when West Nile was causing panic.

It saved a whopping $10,000.

One of those moments that really makes you ask, what the fuck are we even doing here?

also this is a good time to remind you that 1) on any given day a NYT subscription is like 5-10 times the cost of a subscription to, say, Mother Jones; 2) Your sub $ is inconsequential to the former and essential to the latter; 3) Only one of them never wrote "Herr Hitler, at home in the clouds"

One thing I want to emphasize is that this basic dynamic is one that many people have been articulating for several decades. It is absolutely not that big donors on the left are unaware of it. They’ve been told for a very long time by a lot of people, but generally have no interest in funding media.

"Anything Republicans want to do is legal and anything Democrats want to do is illegal" is fast becoming the overriding theory of governance at both the state and federal levels.

To give you a sense of how bad the GOPs current polls must be. Indiana is already heavily gerrymandered and there are two Democrats out of 9 seats.

Back in the GWOT warblogger days, there was an obsession with β€œTakfiri jihadis”

They can eat pork and shave their beard and do whatever it takes to kill you better!

It was silly ninja fantasies by idiots, but like so much else, also a confessional/projection.

Increasingly think neofeudalism vs capitalism is a better lens for understanding what’s going on in contemporary politics than capitalism vs socialism.

Lessons for my friends in Bend.

Like studies on UBI, we keep demonstrating this over and over. And leaders keep prioritizing new routes instead.

More coverage on the map looks great if your livelihood doesn’t depend on when the bus comes.

This is a slimmed down version but decent. Transit would get half the funding increase proposed in HB 2025, for example.

Looks like #orleg will kill tolling for Meek’s vote. Mannix is cranking up a pyrrhic effort to repeal the estate tax, perhaps as cover for voting for this.

We’ll see.
