Oh also related to this, please follow/support the @thefoldcanada.bsky.social like they literally facilitated these interactions.

They live posted panels this week.

I see tons of people jumping down orgs/festivals that do things wrong.

Fair.

But also let's support orgs doing great. πŸ–€

One more point about @thefoldcanada.bsky.social Today I had 5 separate Trinidadian women come up to the signing table and say, I thought I was alone. I like SF but I have never seen myself represented. Or, I have tried to write and I have never found a writing group person who understood +

Some treasures from authors featured at the FOLD @thefoldcanada.bsky.social, which is having its 10th anniversary. This is such a wonderful literary festival - I look forward to it every year. Lots of great panel conversations today, and now it's on to the spoken word showcase tonight!

I had a lovely time at @thefoldcanada.bsky.social readception. The musicians and readers were incredible.

It was heartening to be at an event that has diverse art, writing and readers at its core in these uncertain times.
You all should give their account a follow. It's good work their doing.

I'm going to be at the Rose theatre on Saturday with R.F. Kuang and Amanda LuDuc for the FOLD! This will probably be the biggest group I've ever talked about writing in front of πŸ˜… I'll also be at the literary Cabaret tomorrow, which there may be some tickets left for?
Say hi to me if you're there!

On what short stories can't do what novels can is potentially immerse you in a world or character. There's certain things that the nature of a novel encapsulates you while reading can't be replicated - JES #FOLD2025

Short stories connect me to my poet roots in terms of playing with structure, or maybe I'm in my Alice Munro era writing 30 page novels. Very rate a short story for me turns into a novel - JES #FOLD2025

Short stories are so satisfying - they have a beginning, middle, and end, and it just feels succinct. Novels, especially the middle, are so challenging. I feel like I could do well for myself if I just stuck with short stories - Iryn on working in one form vs the other #FOLD2025

People read short stories, but might struggle with a collection from beginning to rend. Sometimes it's hard to finish one, sit with it, then start a completely different type of story. That's disorienting. But, to me, it's also something beautiful - Iryn Tushabe #FOLD

Novels are inherently more immersive and often short stories limit character, which inhibits how audiences interact with the writing. That's most likely a drawback. It's more poetic and provocative but some readers don't want to do the work - John Elizabeth Stintzi #FOLD
