03.10.2025 08:15 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I return to Taipei next week for 2+ months and am simply overwhelmed by the number and quality of outdoor temple-fair opera offerings for the first part of October. And on the weekends there are shows in the indoor theaters. Itโs bonkers!

24.09.2025 07:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If you are reading any translated danmei from Chinese, you better be making sure that translators are not getting exploited ๐ซ i see so many people look the other way though and pretend it's not happening just to keep consuming content they love
24.09.2025 00:40 โ ๐ 14 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 2And honestly I think certain English publishers of Chinese literature are basically like this too... All the BS that people get away with
24.09.2025 00:37 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0None of this is a surprise but having it laid out so clearly in English makes my blood boil
24.09.2025 00:34 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"A final unethical practice is the racial and ethnic hierarchies used by the translation companies, usually in Asia, where the actual work is being done. [...] Local translation outsourcers canโt really tell who is any good, and therefore sort prices by ethnicity."
24.09.2025 00:33 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"The translation rates in China are usually set at the lowest levels seen anywhere in the world, less than half of most other developing countriesโ languages.[...]The translator is paid 30RMB for every 4 hours, a total of $4.45 or $1.11 per hour, which is around one-third of minimum wage in China."
24.09.2025 00:31 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"A lot of these inquiries will be highly trivial and boil down to โexplain why my high school understanding of English is wrong and why your decades of specialization in this field are correct.โ"
24.09.2025 00:30 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0"The Chinese translator, after having worked hard on a project and earning a fair rate, is sometimes surprised to get a reply from a client with a hundred or more inquiries demanding that the translator explain why a particular translation is correct.

22.09.2025 03:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A paperback copy of The Lantern and the Night Moths by Yilin Want on a weathered wooden surface. The cover illustration features an old-fashioned lantern underneath a starry sky, with a ghostly moth nearby.
Okay okay, I dug a little deeper and am now excited about my choices! My main book is going to be The Lantern and the Night Moths by @yilinwriter.bsky.social

21.09.2025 23:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I finally got to meet up with Zhang Qiaohui in Cixi, her hometown.
Even though it is the first time we are meeting, the way she talks feels so familiar, and her personality is exactly like the speaker in her poetry so whenever she tells a story I feel like I am reading her poem ๐๐
i'm currently travelling in china but feel free to message me if you want to chat
