Nathalie Van Eynde

I bought her book in English, and saw that a lot of the experiences us ME-patients live with, are well-described in this book. The often absurd truth, written in a way that encourages the reader to continue to read, and submerges them in a warm bath of understanding and recognition.

Cognitive problems have kept me from getting very far in this book in the English language. However, I love the recognition, the feeling of not being alone. And it is also a beautiful book to lend to people who want to understand better what life is like with a severely disabling, chronic illness, which in addition is not taken seriously.

Having to fight for welfare just to survive whilst extremely unwell is one of the grave social injustices of our time.

The damage it does to people with M.E. can be irreversible.

My heart breaks for all of us going through this. Where the hell is the compassion?

Cutting benefits does not make disabled people able to work.

Removing remote work does not make disabled people able to work.

Accommodating people’s needs does however allow more disabled people to work and thrive.

The photo shows a perspective of a dark curtain.on the right hand side with a shard of light shining through in the calm winter morning light. On the wall in the centre of the photo, three striking shards of light fall, shaped like blades. The one to the right is white/blue then the one adjoining it in the middle is orange and the last one is a fractured piece of orange/red/blue light.

I spend 23.5 hours a day in bed.

I watch the light patterns dance across the wall and shapeshift as the hours go by.

7.30am is particularly perfect right now.

I’m finally getting window blinds tomorrow. Light is hard to bear these days.

M.E. doesn’t leave us with much.

Abstract
Major depressive disorder (MDD) and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) frequently occur together; yet their causal relationship remains unclear. To investigate the potential genetic causal link between these conditions, we conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Summary data from Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) for MDD were sourced from the UK Biobank and the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, while GWAS data for ME/CFS were retrieved from the UK Biobank. Inverse-variance weighting (IVW), the MR-Egger method, and weighted median, simple and weighted modes were used to perform the MR analysis. In addition, Cochrane’s Q-test was used to detect heterogeneity among the MR results. Horizontal pleiotropy was detected using the MR-Egger intercept and the MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier (MR-PRESSO) tests. Leave-one-out analysis was performed to investigate the sensitivity of the association between MDD and ME/CFS. The results of the MR analysis revealed no causal relationship between MDD and ME/CFS. The pleiotropy test revealed that causality bias was improbable, and no evidence of heterogeneity was found among the genetic variants. Finally, the leave-one-out test confirmed the stability and robustness of our findings.
