Maybe it’ll last, maybe it won’t. Hopefully we’ll get some good comics, and the people who make them will get paid properly. That’ll do for me, tbh.

Livejournal. I honestly think it was perfect. I still miss it.

Here’s what I think about the Vertigo relaunch:
1. I think it’s good for one of the big two to be publishing comics that aren’t cape stuff.
2. I am a big fan of Mariko Tamaki, and I’m excited to read her book.

Do you like Milligan’s work generally? I’ve been reading his stuff since I was ten years old, so I’m extremely tuned into his particular frequency. There are times when he does turn into Paycheck Pete, but I didn’t get that impression from the Hellblazer issues I read

I was just thinking today “I haven’t seen any posts from Ben in a while, I hope he’s doing okay. Hid posts always brighten my day” and here you are with this glorious ray of sunshine.

I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying, BUT: a publisher that pays page rates, and has a marketing department, and the bookshop reach of DC comics, publishing the kind of work creators normally have to do entirely on the back end for Indy publishers who struggle to get out of the direct market

As for Milligan, I’ll read that run properly one day. I liked the issues I read; but there’s a lot riding on it for me.

Ah, I liked the Azzarello run, but I like Azzarello generally. It’s a very strong flavour though, so I get why a lot of people hate him. The only runs I read that I didn’t really think kept their end up were Ellis and Diggle. The Mina run started shaky but sorted itself out.

I love that album.

Maybe a sneaky sideways plan on Black’s part? There’s enough material for a Grofield movie series…

This is my take, too. Although I thought Grofield was pretty true to the source.

The thing to care about with that story is the Guardian, which is basically openly sponsored by a fucking AI company, using Miller as an excuse for an advert disguised as an article.

George Miller is 80 years old and is, realistically, unlikely to ever make another movie. I don’t really give a shit what he thinks about AI. Who cares. An old man has an incorrect opinion about modern technology, woop. Yes it’s a bit disappointing, but old men’s opinions often are.

…but ever since then, it’s nagged at me, that gap. Sean Phillips is one of my absolute favourite artists, up there with Mignola and BWS and Ezquerra for me, and that’s his run as much as it is Jenkins’.

So, my question is: should I go back? Was I too quick to judge? Does it get better?

…and that was Paul Jenkins. I bounced really hard off his first issue. The John in it felt completely wrong to me, on a number of levels. He claimed never to have taken any drugs, for example. It felt like Jenkins hadn’t read the comic before. I just decided to jump straight to the next writer…

Many years ago, I read what was, then, the entire run of Hellblazer. A good marker for how long ago it was is that I only read the very beginning of the Milligan run (and then dipped in and out of the rest of it as it came out). There was one writer who’s issues I skipped though…

Why is the Assassins Creed logo a staple remover? Is removing staples a big part of the game?

Too many to list, to be honest. Working nights most of my adult life, social media has enabled me to have a social life in a way that simply wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. I have made many lifelong friends through it, and made the work I’m best known for as an artist with one of them.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

I can’t believe I never thought of writing the alt text in notes first. I do that with ordinary posts on here fairly often, if I think they’re going to run long… I’ll do that in future, it’s a good solution

08.10.2025 12:41 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

Anyway, that’s two pages already this week; I don’t want to get carried away, but it feels like I’m back on the horse.

Posting pages here is by far the most arduous part after the drawing, because writing the alt text takes forever. I don’t write scripts, so I can’t just copy/paste, and I refuse to post them here without alt text. So that also makes it very tempting to just keep posting the links instead.

I am currently trying to decide whether to stop posting pages here, and so force people to actually sign up to my Patreon to see them, or to just institute a delay maybe? I want people to read it, but I also want people to join the Patreon. It’s free! Is there a reason people don’t want to do that?
