Highest 2 Lowest is terrific and well worth seeing in a theater while you can. Re-making a great original can work with a fresh perspective, as this one has. Expanding the chauffeur's role was a particularly good choice, introducing a prime spot for two great actors to play off each other.

18.08.2025 15:34 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My favorite Osborne-ism for something he knew was a stinker: "interesting movie!"
17.08.2025 16:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0He shared a bunch of great stories on the Billy Budd commentary track with Soderbergh. Get your physical media, people--this one's still available on blu-ray from Warner Archive.
17.08.2025 15:38 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Easily one of the best horror movies ever made, for me. Lots of memeable silliness, of course, but I really think it's magnificent.
17.08.2025 00:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1I was surprised that pre-release buzz centered on "Jewish revenge against Nazis" as the theme, which didn't seem like a QT thing--he'd simply said for yrs he wanted to do a "bunch of guys on a WWII mission" movie. So I was delighted it wound up being all about *cinematic vengeance*--now THAT'S him.
16.08.2025 23:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I assume stuff like this--menu, meeting agenda--would be CUI, right? As in, not classified, but FFS don't use the hotel printer.
16.08.2025 16:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is a good example of what I belatedly realized in 2016: basically everyone eho complains about "the establishment" is using that term to mean "people I dislike and/or disagree with."
16.08.2025 14:50 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Miller brought up a legitimate issue, but instead of asking ZM "Jewish people say they find this phrase threatening, including many who support you, what's your response to them?" (the actual point), he lamely asked "does it make you uncomfortable" (completely beside the point).
16.08.2025 14:40 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sad news but what a nice tribute that he wanted you to be there with him. Seems clear that he made a lot of people happy, which is a nice legacy to leave.
16.08.2025 13:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now this example is right up my alley, as all the headlines I keep seeing of "lawyers called out in court for fake citations hallucinated by AI" are still a bit too abstract for me.
16.08.2025 13:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Ok so this part of his Wiki entry, about his dad, is absolutely tremendous:

Additionally, if no convention bounce is visible, we assume there was an immediate drop in the candidate's real support, which we assume is being masked by the convention bounce that we aren't seeing."
10.08.2025 19:16 β π 13 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I was going to reply with something about the MC opening with a joke about Ethelred The Unready, but even that was eight years before he became king!

07.08.2025 17:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I should add that while Arafat was well aware that the Israeli Labor govt they were negotiating with was about to replaced by a rejectionist Likud, the PA and Arab states all expressed the delusional belief that GW Bush would be "better" for them than Clinton because GWB would be "like his father."
07.08.2025 14:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Notably, this also kneecapped peace-minded leadership in both the US and Israel during final status negotiations with the Palestinian Authority in mid to late 2000.

07.08.2025 13:54 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Also, here's where @jch24.bsky.social's tattoo goes wrong--this is his name transliterated:
Χ'Χ¨
While this is the word for "chalk" (pronounced like "gear"):
ΧΦ΄ΧΧ¨
This is "coop" in Hebrew--pronounced as if you were saying "LOL" as an actual word:
ΧΧΧ
Ha, I hadn't realized this, but Coop (as in chicken coop) in Hebrew is the direct transliteration of "LOL."
The slang equivalent in Hebrew for LOL is basically "hahaha."
I think if you got "Jer" transliterated just a bit incorrectly in Hebrew, it would be "chalk."
06.08.2025 20:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0The screwed-up ones I've seen online in Hebrew are just dumb or incoherent. Like one guy who insisted his tatoo said "strength" when it actually said "matzah" (the big-ass crackers we eat during Passover).
