Some of the same lawmakers spreading misinformation about abortion medications are also pushing anti-vaccine bills, seeking to regulate "chemtrails," and pushing horse dewormer for human use (yes, this last one came up in House debate today). We deserve facts, not fearmongering.

The danger we face comes from a state that seeks to compel childbirth and delay life-saving postpartum care. Our politicians seek to replace safe, legal abortions with risky, illegal abortions and the threat of lengthy prison sentences or even the death penalty.

Anti-abortion lawmakers are scaremongering about mifepristone and misoprostol, so it bears repeating:

Louisiana locked up misoprostol a year ago — and is now trying to restrict it nationally | The Lens Louisiana’s Act 246 locked up misoprostol and mifepristone, delaying emergency care, harming miscarriage treatment, and prompting lawsuits over political interference in medicine.

Louisiana made mifepristone and misoprostol Schedule IV drugs in 2024. Louisiana doctors, pharmacists, and patients "now work and live under increasing fears that they won’t be able to access the critical drugs in an emergency," according to local reports. thelensnola.org/2026/01/14/l...

The House just voted 83-28 to table Rep. Wetmore's amendment, which would have kept mifepristone and misoprostol off the Schedule IV list and ensured they are readily available for emergency care in labor & delivery units.

Misoprostol is used to treat postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality. Every second counts in labor and delivery units, and new legal hurdles would make it more difficult for medical professionals to save lives.

H. 4760 would list mifepristone & misoprostol as Schedule IV controlled substances, putting them in the same category as Xanax, Valium, & Ambien despite no evidence of potential for abuse or dependency.

Rep. Spencer Wetmore introduces an amendment that would delete the Schedule IV part of the bill.

Decisions about pregnancy, abortion, and childbirth are deeply personal. But every new anti-abortion bill increases state surveillance of pregnant people, whether they decide to obtain an abortion or not.

Please contact your state lawmakers. Ask them to vote NO on H. 4760.

H. 4760 would classify mifepristone and misoprostol as Schedule IV drugs, which carry some risk for abuse or dependency.

But there is no known risk of abuse or dependency with these medications and no reason to put them in the same legal category as Xanax, Valium, and Ativan.

South Carolinians already suffer from some of the worst maternal health outcomes in the country. 14 of our 46 counties have no practicing OB/GYN.

H. 4760 would make the job of caring for pregnant people, parents, and babies even more difficult than it currently is.

Mifepristone and misoprostol are essential for managing miscarriages and treating postpartum hemorrhage, which can be fatal.

Every second counts in labor and delivery units. New legal hurdles would make it more difficult for medical professionals to save lives.
