Officers may not confiscate or demand to see your photographs or video without a warrant, nor may they delete data under any circumstances. However, they may order you to cease activities that are truly interfering with legitimate law enforcement—for example, physically obstructing their work.

When you are lawfully present in any public space, you have the right to photograph anything in plain view, including government buildings and law enforcement. (On private property, the owner may set rules about photography or video.)

South Carolinians keep showing up to oppose extreme anti-abortion bills like S. 323. We were proud to join our neighbors and raise our voices on the State House lawn this week. The struggle for reproductive freedom is far from over, but we're encouraged by the good people we meet along the way.

Republican officials have endorsed the punishments, saying that those who glorify violence should be removed from positions of trust.

The First Amendment protects the right to freedom of expression even when government officials find it disrespectful or offensive.

The government can't tell people what to believe, what to say, or how to say it.

Chaney, who serves as legal director of the South Carolina chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, said the threats to defund Clemson and others crossed a constitutional line. “The government can’t police speech by pressuring third parties,” he said. Last year, the Supreme Court unanimously held that government officials cannot use their authority to “attempt to coerce” private parties into punishing or suppressing speech they dislike.

You don't need a permit to protest in response to breaking news or to march on sidewalks or streets as long as traffic and building access are not obstructed. 2: You have the right to photograph anything in plain view while lawfully in public, including federal buildings and police. 3: If your rights are violated, document everything by writing details, collecting witness contact information, and taking photos of injuries. 4: If stopped by police, ask if you are free to go. If yes, calmly walk away. 5: If arrested, invoke your right to remain silent and request a lawyer. Do not sign, speak, or agree to anything without legal representation. 6: If stopped by military or law enforcement at a protest, you have the right to remain silent and only answer questions in the presence of an attorney, regardless of immigration or citizenship status.
