It's true, but I don't think there was any kind of malice in him purporting that figure. I think he trusts the press' reporting of it and just didn't look any further into it, like a lot of people have. A lot of people just aren't prone to looking into misinformation.

Activision had a whole process to send in tips to corporate about "indie games we had heard of" so they could snipe them. I sent in every indie I knew of and as far as I know they never contacted anyone.
