So that was Thursday February 5th 2026. Crikey. Another day done, another day nearly here.
(Released this very month in 1988, just 38 years ago, The Spectre #14, with its gorgeously macabre cover by Charles Vess.)
And so to bed. Sleep well, gentle sentients. May tomorrow be kind.

Every Super Bowl ad was just โHEY REMEMBER THIS SHIT? HUH? YOU REMEMBER THE POP CULTURE YOU CONSUMED THAT ONE TIME IN YOUR LIFE WHEN NOT ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING FUCKING SUCKED. REMEMBER THAT?? brought to you by a company causing your electric bill to increase 287%โ

I sort of slept on the 2022 ones, but I watched the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics a bunch when I lived in Japan and it was awesome. I'm not usually a sports guy, but I have a huge soft spot for the Olympics. I love the international aspect, & the world coming together, if just for a couple weeks.

Side note: It sure is hard to see a big variety of Winter Olympics events in the US if you don't have an expensive cable or cable-esque package or Peacock. Been watching over the air, and the ads dominating the screen during non-US athletes' time, and the events not shown on TV is kind of a bummer.

I've been watching a lot of sports this past couple days! The Winter Olympics, mostly, but I tuned in for Bad Bunny's halftime show and it was magnificent :-)

i heard you were looking for an illustration of Olive Oyl using her nintendo famicom, with the tv-net modem peripheral plugged into it, so she can use "daiwa my trade", and make trades on the japanese stock market, with the help of popeye.

It's so nice when you find a thrift store gadget that ends up being really useful. I still use my old circa-2011 iPod, and just scored a nice Bose SoundDock for it, for only like $10 and it sounds magnificent! Lots of very nice older tech out there still worth looking at.

I have that same scanner! Mine is in semi-retirement since I've been using a Canon all-in-one that takes up a little less desk space, but my HP that's like yours still works and served me very well for years :-)

I repost a lot of 80s/90s GIFs and clip art, but I gotta add to this one that the Isuzu Piazza (aka Impulse) is one of my favorite car designs. I really like Giugiaro designed cars.

Thanks Phil, I'm really glad you like it! I'm slowly getting a bit braver with the self-promotion stuff. The internet can be a scary place, but people here (you especially) have been very supportive. I'm hoping to make two more albums this year, if I can fit them in (gotta make up for lost time!)

But my bank account is looking dire now (luckily a few projects came just in time, since I was starting to sweat a bit) so back to hard work mode for a while. Thanks for reading this thread, if you got through it!

December/January was the first time in multiple years that I had real free time. It felt SO good to make my own personal art and music. I feel like I had a long-needed creative explosion. Hope once I get my ADHD meds set up right this year that I can better balance my work/life and make more stuff!

Anyway, I hope you found this interesting! I can make some extra physical copies if any of you want one, but it'll just take some time (I have work too) and might have delays here and there with getting materials. If you do, just DM me or something :-)

I really tried to act on what I've learned about online marketing on this album. It's still not on that many services (Bandcamp, Soundcloud, YouTube so far) but I used to be TERRIBLY SHY about self-promotion. I may be an unknown in the music world, but why not act like I'm not?

For the YouTube videos, I opted to follow the iridescent theme, and for each song, the black crystals shimmer in different colors. I had fun animating that together and making digital "stencils" of sorts. The first and last tracks have special color / morphing effects too.

So yeah, that plus mailing the CDs out means I'm losing money on each one, but I don't care. I want my friends and family to have it. This is the first time that I've also made a QR code that links to digital streaming / downloads / purchase, since I know not everyone is still stuck on CDs like me.

My original idea of just keeping everything else scaled-down and printed on my laserjet went away and I opted to print everything at Officemax. I'd had a plan to make a more deluxe package that required larger paper that I'd fold down, but it wound up costing $9/CD, so I scaled back. Now it's $5/CD.

I'd been wanting to use iridescent paper for album packaging for a long while, and finally did it. This paper doesn't work with my laser printer, but does w my inkjet. My inkjet has bad color ink issues, but the black prints fine. Each physical copy I've been hand-making so far has a shiny cover!

The album itself has a pretty cold, alien, ominous feel, so I thought the stark black and yellow and jagged sharp angular characters would make for a neat visual accompaniment to the music. But it's not all stark... We have holograms! (iridescence, technically)

As for the color, CMYK yellow, I tend to go through different phases in my life where I really identify with a specific color. It took me a while to come around to yellow as a color, but now I love it! ๐ Mostly I went with it here bc it looks cool, but also because it reminded me of caution signs.

A raw scan of the land-lettering I did for Psychic Battle and its song titles, written in Sharpie on graph paper. There are numerous mistakes that I fixed on the PC.
The final look of the text for Psychic Battle & its song titles. All cleaned-up, but still purposely-rough around the edges.
Now onto the lettering! (What most friends here know me for.) I used graph paper and Sharpie and made some hand-drawn letters. I wanted it to be both rigid and 8-bit-esque, but also kind of janky. I originally had all characters uniform width, but I don't like crossbar Is in the middle of words...

A side-by-side pic of a photo I took of the fake "199X Famicom game cartridge I made back in 2014, and the new wireframe / polygonal recreation I made in 2026.
For the track "199X", back in 2014 I made a fake Famicom label and did a little photoshoot of this cartridge in various photogenic places around Nagasaki. (you can see those here: www.evanhaydenart.com/design/macro...)
I decided to recreate this cartridge in the new art, & I'm happy w the results
