I've been building web apps that last since 2001. I offer fixed quotes with flexible scope and firm deadlines. I'm still helping clients that emailed me back in 2007. https://codingwithjesse.com He/him

Jesse Skinner - Adding Svelte to your legacy projects
YouTube video by Svelte Society Jesse Skinner - Adding Svelte to your legacy projects

* this was the talk: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWxk...

* next for my PoC: props drilling.

Back in the Svelte 3 era, I figured out how to pass functions as props during mount, and how to expose component methods from the Svelte app to the mounting environment.

Years ago I learned I a neat trick in a Svelte Summit talk from @jesseskinner.bsky.social: how to compile a Svelte 3 app to a standalone module so that you can mount it in any legacy environment that supports HTML & vanilla JS.

Only ~2 years into the Svelte 5 era, I finally have a PoC with mount().

Chrome broke my client's web app - Jesse Skinner The great thing about the web is that web pages from thirty years ago still work fine. So you can imagine how surprised I was when a new version of Chrome broke my client's web app in production.

Just updated my homepage. I added cover photos to my featured blog posts, and I've been working to replace all the Midjourney-AI-generated ones with real photography from Unsplash. AI-generated photos were cool and novel a couple of years ago but haven't aged well. Really happy with the result.

Have to say I'm not terribly surprised.

Modern conveniences meant housewives didn't have to work quite so hard any more. Did they work less? No, they joined the workforce.

Emails and computing made paperwork much faster. Could administrators work less? No! But now everything was happening faster!

Coding with LLMs can still be fun - Coding with Jesse Do you love reviewing code other people wrote? Do you get a tickle of pure joy to find and criticize the mistakes and problems in sloppy code? Me neither.

Going through some ancient burned CDs. Found one with one file, "1st_read.bin". I couldn't run it, so I ran "strings 1st_read.bin" to extract any text from the binary.

I pasted that into Claude and it told me it's a Sega Dreamcast mp3 player I burned for my Dreamcast!
