Global 8000 The fastest business jet

Holy shit, the Bombardier Global 8000 has been certified for Mach 0.95 and hit Mach 1.15 in flight testing.

They built a subsonic plane faster than the Convair 990.

I could be wrong, but I believe on most modern airliners they design the pylons so that when they fail, the engine is pushed upward high enough to not cause any damage to the main airframe.

I could be wrong but I believe on all modern airliners the pylons are designed so that when they fail, the engine is directed upwards high enough that it doesn’t pose a threat to the rest of the airframe.

The fact that they found overstress cracks on the pylon makes it seem like something abnormal had happened to the aircraft, or at least that engine recently.

The #1 engine was very briefly its own self contained rocket.

I know immediately after the FAA ordered pylon inspections carried out, FedEx said they were completing the inspections and returning the aircraft to service on a tail-by-tail basis.

I’d imagine they’re already working on a permanent fix for the pylons.

FedEx has supposedly committed to returning theirs to service. They intended to keep the full fleet around until 2030-2032.

Compounded by the number 3 engine ingesting debris and flames causing the compressor to stall, leaving them with effectively only one engine. It was a literal worst case scenario.
