A large group watching a panel discussion on the main stage of the Fesrival of Genomics.
Todayβs highlight of the #FOG2025 was a panel featuring four leaders of incredible bioresources.
I might have expected theyβd be competitors, but instead theyβre colleagues with a shared mission.

Fascinating to listen to @ewanharrison.bsky.social talk about the microbiome in your nose, and the technology that heβs developing with the @gsugenomics.bsky.social to bring down the cost of sequencing 20+ viruses from the same sample.

Adam Rutherford speaking at the festival of genomics to a packed crowd.
β¦Less good hearing that the twin study was founded by the Eugenecist Galton.
@adamrutherford.bsky.social with a tour-de-force on the βpernicious historyβ of our field at #FOG2025
Always important to remember the context of our work. Eugenics ideas are still around, not just from the past.

A consensus statement on dual purpose pathogen surveillance systems: The always on approach
We need "Always On" pathogen surveillance that lets us:
1) Stay prepared for the next pandemic
2) Save lives in the meantime by better targeting our response to threats like flu, RSV, malaria, dengue, etc.
